Not sure on this comparison either. The GTO would out accellerate and top speed the STI. But the STI would out handle the GTO easily.

In general, Japanese car guys won't consider a GM, and vice versa.

The GTO is a very heavy, comfort-oriented GT coupe with a huge V-8 and RWD. The STi is a bone-jarring, high-intensity 4-door sedan with a turbo 4 and AWD.

In short, the two are completely different in feel, appearance, layout, and temperment. I guess there may be a handful of people who'd cross-shop them, but in the main I think most people would be interested in either one or the other, or neither of these cars.
