For the record, I don't like the way it looks from the C-Pillar on back. But the engine seems to be a good addition to the BMW line.

What don't you like from the C-Pillar back? It's fairly smooth like the E46, no? I think it looks pretty good.

I want.

Much.

Yowwwza. Still not as great looking as the '99-'01 3 series at first glance, but I like the much-improved (vs. sedan) rear. The whole thing looks more streamlined.

And the engine is hott..

Pritty high compression ratio for a turbo.

Its suppose to be $50,000 and $60,000 (inbetween the high end 330i and base M3)

That is a really high compression ratio for a turbo engine. They must not be pushing much boost if it's that high, maybe all of 6lbs, I don't think it could be much more than that. Hence the apperent lack of turbo lag.

I think the lack of turbo lag is from the twin turbo application. Remember, this is a modified version of the current engine, so its hardly pushing 50 more hp over naturally aspirated brother. I dont know how must psi is actually being used but its probably lower than average. I believe its quite common for a twin turbo to have large amounts of torque at the low-mid rpms. You have to remember though, they cant make this 335i faster than the M3 cause it will lessen the sales of the M3, but Im sure BMW could push 400hp out if they really wanted to.

Shouldn't have taken the compression ratio out of context. Immediately before that they say that this is a direct injection engine. That creates a massive cooling effect, allowing a higher compression ratio with moderate boost. Pre-production models ran 10psi, retail models will be running ~8.5psi.

I returned mine after a week of owning it. It just wasn't as fast as my Z06 vette and the interior wasn't near as sweet as my Bentley.

Why not just put a bigger displacement n/a engine...

this thing is the supra bulletproof handed by god motor, probably can't handle boost...

The 335 coupe is out this Sept with the upgraded motor also upgrading the 330i sedan for 2007. So for 2007, there will be the 335 and 328 replacing the 330 and 325.

The 335 coupe looks interesting as the standard suspension is the same as the sedan sport package, a 6-speed manual is available, and with the price at around 42K (high 40s fully loaded). With the Lexus IS350 coming in at pretty much the same price, its a hard sell for an enthusiast to choose the Lexus over the 335.

The new M3 with the 4L V8 (~420hp?) is said to be coming out this spring at closer to 60K.

300hp from twin turbos on a high compression V6? No thanks. I smell the work of a marketing department on this one. This works in BMWs favor though. Knowledgeable BMW owners are hard to come by and they'll eat this right up with words like "Twin Turbo" thrown at them. I dout it would have been hard for them to put an NA 300hp engine in it. It doesn't have the same marketing appeal though. Those turbos must be pushing at the most 4 PSI. lol
