Edmunds.com: 2003-2004 Family Sedan Comparison Test

http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/comparison/articles/101056/article.html?tid=edmunds.h..reviews.rightbanner.1g.*
This group includes the freshly reworked Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord and Mitsubishi Galant, and newcomers like the sporty Mazda 6 (a replacement for the old 626) and the Suzuki Verona. Also on the guest list was our defending champ, the Volkswagen Passat, along with such perennial contenders as the Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry. (The Camry SE V6 was fitted with a bigger engine for 2004 to better enable it to do battle with the V6 versions of the Accord, Altima and Galant.) We then filled in the ranks with value leaders like the Chrysler Sebring and Hyundai Sonata.
I haven't read the article yet, but my prediction is as follows:

Honda Accord
Mazda Mazda6
Toyota Camry
Nissan Altima
Mitsubishi Galant
Volkswagen Passat
Hyundai Sonata
Chevrolet Malibu
Suzuki Verona
Chrysler Sebring

...these are no longer the boring cars that you remember...

...They're spacious, comfortable...

I can't tell one of those puny clones from another.

Honda Accord

Toyota Camry
Nissan Altima
Volkswagen Passat
Mitsubishi Galant
Chevrolet Malibu
Hyundai Sonata
Chrysler Sebring
Suzuki Verona

That's interesting how even though the 6 was manual, it still got it's ass handed to it by half of it's competitors, all of which were automatics.

What's even more interesting is that it also came in second place and looks 10x better than the Accord.

Where's the list of differences. I see NONE, except for the damn spoiler and splash of chrome on the front. BFD.

Do you really lack the visual acuity necessary to discern between two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT cars? 🙂 I don't see how they look alike.... at all.

Since when is Edmund's comparison articles about looks? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. It's a family sedan comparison. The 6 is geared towards the enthusiast more so than the average driver with a need for a practical sedan. That's why I bought the Accord. It suited me far better than the 6 ever would or could.

I don't believe he was implying that Edmund's based their decision on looks; rather, he was saying that it came in second place, a very high position, and looks superior to the Accord.

I do think the 6 looks > Accord Sedan, but not so much the coupe.

Oh. I tend to take things for face value as is 🙂 I guess after re-reading it that he meant he was surprised it came in 2nd place period. I don't get the 10x better looking than the Accord though. To be honest, the Accord isn't very photogenic at all, but IMO it looks great in person. Besides, its what its like when you're behind the wheel that counts.

The Mazda 6 actually looks like a sports sedan with a set of balls whereas the accord looks like a civic with downsyndrome or something like that 😉

BTW I was pretty surprized that the ford taurus wasn't featured in that test. I think the Taurus is right behind the accord/camry in terms of sales numbers for the family-sedan market in the US.

Sad that the Sebring finished 2nd last, right after the Sonata.

But not surprising. Chrysler makes crappy cars and trucks...So does GM. Stay away from them and you'll do well.

The new 2004 Accord actually looks better than the prev gen 98+ Accords. The Accord coupe looks nice. Though I must agree, the 6 does have sharper looks over the Accord in general.

Vehicle designs back then were more daring.

I think you guys are reading too much into my comment. I was just busting OS's chops. I find it wonderful that it still placed second despite it getting "it's ass handed to it by half of it's competitors".

In addition to that, I think it looks much better than the Accord.😀

Yeah, that's very specific. Just as I expected.

At a time when Chevys looked like this, Fords looked like this, Chryslers looked like this, Datsuns looked like this, and Volkswagons looked like this. Not hard to point out several differences at that time. Now they're all cookie cutter clones!

I don't get how Ornery isn't banned yet.

Every car thread I've seen in the past two months or so that had the slightest potential to be turned into a domestics vs. imports thread has been nothing but a magnet for him to just wander in and start trying to function as a catalyst.

We get it.
You hate anything that's not a V8 four door, truck, or SUV from the US.
Please, shut up.
I'm so sick of reading such repetitive derogitory crap in every car thread that doesn't trash imports.

I think you're reading too much into my comment. I meant it got it's ass handed to it on the acceleration times, where it placed solidly middle. And if you had read the review, the writers said straight up the 6 probably would have placed lower if it also had an auto tranny.

Surprised the Camry finished so high...then again, it had the new 3.3😛 The SE needs 17" wheels though
