Editing video files

I have a DV Camera. I downloaded the footage on my PC using WinCoder.
To edit it I am using WinProducer.
Although a nice simple program, it is a bit to simple.
Can any one recommend other software for the job.

I want to do things like 1) add someone`s name at the bottom of the screen for
about five second`s but not have a break in the footage
for this (like in the Wrestling, when a wrestler
comes down to the ring at the start of a match)
2)record to DV format
3)Capture DV footage from the camera (if possible)

Any help is great

For what you want, there are some very low end solutions. Pinnacle Studio 9 would do it, but Roxio Videowave 7 is a little cheaper and has some very simple titling routines. Vegas Video is overkill, as would be Adobe Premiere. Because you are keeping it all in DV format, it really simplifies everything.

Having installed and played with MovieMaker (see above), it does what you want for MiniDV work.
It easily puts titling on screen and just overlays it. No breaks. Output back to MiniDV or to WMV files or to AVI files for conversion to MPEG2/DVD format.

Can't beat the price (free), but you must be running WinXP
