Hey guys, I'm just wondering what's the best & free/cheap software I can get to be able to edit text of a scanned page?

What I want to do is scan a page (have pictures & text in it) and have it saved as a .doc format so that I just edit the text at a later time If I wish.

I don't know of specific software, but my 8 year old lexmark all in one can do that just fine with its OCR software bundle. I just scan the document into notepad and edit. I have only used it a few times though. The one time it got funky was a page with a signature.

Scanners usually come with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software, did yours?
Perhaps the scanner manufacturer's website has something you can download.

MS's One Note will pull text out of graphics.

Nevermind, I figured it out guys. I used Omnipage 17 and was able to do exactly what I wanted. It let me scan a page & decide which section is text & which section is image. From there I can export it as a PDF document and able to edit the text on the scanned image :)

The only problem is that Omnipage cost $500. Is there a similar program/alternative to omnipage?

OPP 17 is what I would use - I have it - and never paid any $500. But, I paid for an upgrades from 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, etc., down to 6. :) It might add up to $500 or more, but that was spread over several years.

It really does a great job - exactly what you want done.

You should be able to do that with a PDF editor right? You could try Foxit and see how it works. Their advanced features will leave a watermark, but you can use it as a fully featured product to try it out.
