<< I have a problem. I am in college. I like to download music. >>
Yeah, sounds like a problem to me.
<< Our college recently decided to throttle the bandwidth on port 1214, the port morpheus, kazaa, and most other descent file sharing programs use. >>
Good for them!
<< I was told that it might be possible to write a script that would let morpheus bypass this port. >>
Use a proxy.
<< You can not change the ports in the software itself, but is there a way someone could modify this? >>
Yeah you can, but it is VERY hard, especially if you dont know what you are doing 😉
<< Please, a whole college would thank you. >>
I doubt it. I bet the admins would hate me. And that would be horrible.
Again, the best way to keep this from happening (apart from following the law) is to come up with a WELL WRITTEN paper on how:
1. morpheus and friends help education
2. they make the student body more productive
3. DECREASE bandwidth costs
4. decrease load on servers, routers, switches, etc
OR you could pay for your own bandwidth. This would show you why these steps are necessary (other than the security factor). It would also be great experience for the future. Go get yourself a 1-2U server on a major backbone and download GIGS of information daily, not to mention allow 1000's of people have access to it, and see how quickly your hair turns grey and your pockets are empty. Learn some respect and follow the rules KID.
