EDIT: I was worried about the money and needed a scapegoat...I know CC was just trying to help them out. My bad

FOr all others: My parents got a Sony TRV50 and are disapointed with the Picture quality for stills and want to get a cheaper DV camera nd use the savings for a Digital camera

Going on, they want to use the extra $500 to get a great Digital Camera, with a good amount of megapixels.

Problem is it has to be sold by either BB or CC. I am leaning towards osme BB models but I want all of your great opinions.

Requirement:

Preferably a 3MP+ camera
Good CCD and nice rich color
THey would LOVE it if it had interchangable lenses but it is not a must... EDIT: i guess it is not an option

Basically they want it all under $500

THe Nikon coolpix seems nice but I'll leave it up to you ...

Also...DO you know of any other great DV or MiniDV camera's that are better perhaps....or is the TRV27 the one to get....

Thanks

Oh, I see, you hate Circuit City for doing the customer a service?? The sales counselor sold them everything they need for the camera, thats what we call being customer oriented, most customers don't know or don't think to get the accessories for an item, and frankly if you utilize the cleanings alone with the service plan that pays for it, and you also get complete coverage. And duh, its a camcorder, not a camera, of course a dedicated camera is gonna get you a better picture, that's the way it works genius. As for the digital camera....by interchangable lenses do you mean SLR style? Not gonna happen. As in add-on's? Just about any camera with a 43mm lens will do it, and some fo the smaller ones too. In that range...look at several models. Sony Cybershot S-75 is great, and they can use the memory stick they already have. Also, the Olympus 3040, 3020, or 720 are great cams. Nikon 885 is good. Cannon S30 is great, but doesn't have the ability to add lens attachments. If you can find it, the Canon G1 is also nice. Buy it at Circuit City, would you rather be helped or totally ignored?

sorry about Dishing CCC...I like 'em just was worried about the high cost of the camera....

I spoke with my parents and we sorted out the money dealings...I was worried they were going to overbudget themselves and screw up their brand-new consolidation setup but it's fine...

lol its all good...I get very defensive about my place of employment :) I sell digital cameras, not camcorders though, and I'll tell you what I tell my customers: you are definitely better off getting both a camcorder and a camera. Even if it means going with a lesser camcorder or a lesser camera. A camcorder won't even come close to camera quality stills, and the movie mode on a digital cam isn't even close to that of a camcorder. If you will be using both features extensively, its a no brainer, get the cheaper camcorder and a separate camera. The TR27 should be fine....I do believe in the service plan for it, I don't just tell my customers that to make money, I buy it on most things myself. Camcorders are freakin expensive, and like I said earlier, if you utilize the cleanings that alone costs as much as the service plan were you to get it cleaned afterwards by someone else. So you get that, plus protecection against anything but physical abuse to the camcorder. And considering all of that is no interest for 12 months on a Circuit City card, I'd say that's not too bad a deal if you spread it out.

The 885 is pretty sweet, nice and small...the lens isn't quite the same as the lens on some of the others though. If you can find a Sony S75 or Canon G1 for that price, I'd take that over the 885. But both of those are out of program, at least at Circuit City, so finding them could be difficult. Out of what we sell NOW at CC, either the 885 or the Olympus 3020. Close call between the two...go to the store and use them to decide which you prefer.
