The only difference b/w Visa Debit and Visa card is that Debit has limit right?

Edited:

Does Scotiabank offer VISA Debit card service?

Is there any rate/interste for the debit card?

Depends on the bank.

I've a Visa debit card called The One Card and can use it as a credit card pretty much anywhere (including many purchases in Europe and Mexico) and over the web. Used to have a $500 daily limit on purchases but that's up to $3k now.

First of all, read the fine print for your debit card. Many debit cards do not offer the same protection as a credit card. Personally, I would never use a debit card for online transactions, because it is linked directly to your checking account. I'd rather use a credit card since you have more flexible payment terms in case you have a problem with an online merchant.

Your debit card has the limit of your checking account. So if you have $1000.00 in your checking, your limit would be $1000.00.

Credit is whatever they gave you in the first place.

i read somewhere on AT that u should never buy onliune using your debit card...

can anyone remind us why?...i dont remember..

The reason is because if there is fraud, they tie up your real, actual money in your checking account, and debit cards, for reasons I'm not fully clear on, make it harder to dispute charges.

I have a visa debit card, always used it for online purchases, I don't have a credit card so it's really my only option. I use it for everything, I can't even remember the last time a wrote an actual check. My bank doesn't charge any extra for the card, not sure if thats true for most banks or not.

Because if someone else gets your number they can clean out your bank account in about 3 seconds!

There are two kinds of debit cards, one with the VISA logo, one without. The one without is only an ATM card. But with the logo, its accepted by merchants like a credit card. I looked into the fraud protection with my bank (BankOne) and they said if there is fraudulent usage on my account, I can report it to them and its not my responsibility.

But......what if they've already cleaned out my account?? Am I going to wait 30-60 days for them to "investigate"? How about my checks that will bounce in the meantime, etc....

Using a debit card is risky these days, even if its protected. I cancel mine every year and get a new one, which helps some probably.

I have a Master Card logo debit/check card. There is no fee or interest. The limit is to whichever account I have it linked to. You can set up an additional checking or savings account and have the card linked to that account and the funds in it only. In a dispute, they provisionally credit the funds back to your account pending the results of the investigation. You do have to mail the request in and that can take a couple of days before you can use the funds. But you can also use a webcertificate, which provides you with Mastercard # to shop with online with a limit set by how much you deposit. I take what's left over from that and apply it to a utility bill online.

This is ridiculous!!!! I cannot find a SINGLE bank that offers VISA Debit Card... Some of them DON"T even know about it.... OMG.... I mean in Canada...

Use your regular bank card. Any place that has Interac payment in Canada(just about everywhere) will use your bank card.
