This is the only review I have seen with FS9

Looks like the two top cards are still cpu limited at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF.

Thanks for taking the time to share with us!

I just got back from BB and bought Farcry and UT2K4, so give me until tonight and I'll get you some benchies ;) (I haven't had a main rig in a couple of months, and was just using my work laptop for bit. So I have a bit of catching up to do gamewise :))

edit: and Jeff, sorry, but no FS2004 :(

well, I made the mistake of playing farcry on difficult, and having a helluva time on carrier ;) anyway, i played as long as i could until i died and got the fraps output. FYI, I'm playing at 1600x1200 with the second highest in game video settings, with 2x/8x AA/AF. I'll try once with everythign maxed out to see how it plays, but to be sujective, it was awesome. Though I will say that once during the beginning when i looked at a chair it was completely yellow, though i couldn't duplicate it and don't know if i was imagining things or if there was a glitch with the video. Otherwise it was beautiful...when i wasn't getting my a$$ handed to me :|;)

Heh cool man , just keep the experience coming :D. Far Cry did have a few AF bugs with ATI cards. Get the patch :)

Looks like a bug because it's showing that my core/mem is 115/115.
FYI, FM's website says 3DM03 requires a patch to correctly detect the X800's clockspeeds.

Also FYI, the overpriced Sapphire X800P @ Allstarshop appears to include a HL2 voucher. (The HL2 voucher seems pretty much worthless, though--may as well save your money and get a box and CDs when you buy it this fall.)

Pretty amazing that you can play basically the most graphically demanding game out there at 16x12 AA+AF at 60+fps average. :)

For $400, I'd hope so! ;) Just joshing you. :p Conscript, that is a super card! I wish I had something that fast! I hope you enjoy it and keep it for a long, long time as I am sure it'll play anything you hand to it for the next 2+ years. (Or I hope!)

Beautiful card, indeed! :D

Oh yeah, one more thing...is the HSF on there loud? Quiet? Comparable to any previous card you've owned?

thanks, I'm very happy with the card so far. As far as the HSF, it's very quiet. When I built my computer i initially borrowed a filler video card just to make sure all the other components worked while i waited for the next gen radeon/GF's for come out. Well, i have a fanless 9600 SE in there. Since making the switch to the x800 pro, i can't tell any difference noisewise over my casefan/cpu fan/power supply. I'm a big stickler for noise too, so I would definitely b1tch if it were loud ;)

Nice to see you enjoying the enjoying the raw power of the X800..arr!!! ...forgive my bestial tendencies:eek: Anyway, I would appreciate it if you could try Far Cry with the updated patch v1.1 (if you already haven't done so) and play a level that's really graphic intensive, like....Fort and then give some fps.

Thanks, GB

Thanks for the great info Conscript! Mine's on backorder at Computers4Sure so it's exciting to see some results until it arrives. :) Have you tried 3DMark03 yet with the patch from FutureMark for the X800 cards? Hopefully that will boost your scores just a bit!

Doobie

Looks like someone found the beta drivers they used in the tests for the X800's. Here's a thread I just saw - link. Might be a little risky, though.

60+ FPS @ 16x12 with AA/AF is sweet
On my 9700 pro I have to play at 10x7 with high details, no AA/AF and average only 50fps
Nice :)

well, here was the test. Everythign maxed out, 4x/16x, with very high/max details set in farcry, 1600x1200 32bit. I think this is where the XT PE will come in handy. Personally, I'm just estatic if I can play all my games at 8x AF at 1600x1200.

I ordered my x800 from BB last week and was not expecting it until next week based on the expected ship date posted on BB's site. After reading this thread I checked my order status and found out that my card is on the truck out for delivery. My desk is on the UPS guys route from the service elevator to the reception desk so I'm now on the lookout for the man in brown.

The kid's are going to wonder why I'm trying to put them in bed tonight at 7:00. "But daddy it's still light out."

Currently I'm playing Far Cry on Very High settings, Low AA and 2xAF at 800x600 resolution. I'm gettting pretty good framerates and it's been very playable with my 9700pro. However the lower resolution tends to make the graphics shimmer a little. I'm looking forward to cranking up the resolution and the AF.

I can also try to evaluate the increase in Splinter Cell, FS2004, IL2 FB AEP, Morrowind, Call of Duty and F1C 99-02. Tomorrow I should be getting 1GB of Mushkin PC3500 that I ordered from Newegg to replace my 1GB of Crucial PC2700. My CPU is an AMD64 3400+ on and MSI K8T Neo FSR.

I noticed you did'nt run the fill rate tests? Your score should be much higher than what has been recorded if you do. I beleive you loose points for tests not completed.

Only the first four tests (the "game" tests) count towards your score in both 3DMark01 and 3DMark03. The others are just provided for reference, as they are completely synthetic (that is, they don't even *try* to behave like a game engine would).

Keep in mind that at 1024x768, and without AA or AF, every test in 3DMark01 is going to be almost completely CPU-limited. With a faster processor (I think he has a non-overclocked A64 3000+) and faster RAM (he's only at DDR400, single channel), you'd probably see signficant increases in his score.

Edit: Alternatively, you could run the benchmark at higher resolutions and/or with AA and AF enabled. It would be interesting to see a score at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 16xAF, since that should really bring out the limitations of today's cards.

Those Far Cry numbers are pretty impressive... I think... I'll have to do the same thing on that level and see what my FX5900 scores in comparison.

*EDIT* My settings are as follows...

1024x768x32 @ 85 Hz Vsync ON

Texture Quality ---- High
Texture Filter Quality ---- Trilinear
Particle Count ---- Medium
Effects Quality ---- Medium
Environment Quality ---- High
Shadow Quality ---- Low
Water Quality ---- High
Lighting Quality ---- Medium

2XAA and 0XAF

Frames: 9535 - Time: 201576ms - Avg: 47.302 - Min: 14 - Max: 86

Those are the settings I normally use when playing the game... so compared to the settings that Conscript can normally use when playing the game... even my overclocked FX5900 with lots lower details can't even come close to keeping up. Minimum frame rate of 34 fps is impressive...

Hey Conscript... care to max out the details completely, run 4XAA and 8XAF @ 1024x768x32 and see what kinda frame rates you get? Do that same level again, for consistancy.

**EDIT** Oh... and how bout a screen shot or two to show the difference in quality between the modes you test in? If you need a place to put them, I'll host them for you.
