EDITED

Ok I am on a small budget for my schooling next year but I need a new PC.

So far I have this as the setup:

AMD Barton 2500
Asus A7V8X with aud/lan
Crucial 512 2700
Radeon 9000 128DDR
LG 52x24x52x
Maxtor 80gig Serial ATA
WinXP
Cool case for cheap with 300w

My questions are these:

I don't want to spend the extra $ for an Nforce board, I need something that will run well with onboard audio and lan though, should I stick with the A7V8X or spend the extra 40$ or so on an Nforce2 Delux (I don't know what the difference between the regular and DLX is)

How good is a Radion 9000pro, I didn't want to get a geforce mx440, and it is only another 30$ or so, its either that or a ti4200 but thats a huge price jump, so really how does it compare to a ti4200 (WIll IT PLAY HAlF LIFE 2 WELL?)

The HD is Serial ATA, which I was told is faster than just ATA or the ones with the 8meg buffer, is this true?

THANKS GUYS!

Save yourself a couple hundred bucks and order off the internet because those prices you just listed are insanely high!

Drop the KT400 board like a rock and get yourself an NForce2 board like the Epox 8RDA+ for $86!!!!!!

I'm gonna be upgrading to a similar setup to supplement my P4 rig and my total came out way less than that.

I'd probably get the Ti 4200 in place of the 9000. That's an awful lot for a 9000 anyway.

I second the motherboard move, by the way. Get an nForce2 chipset, NOT a Via KT400.

Since you are from Canada as myself, check out NCIX and A-Power as they have great prices and will save you a couple hundred bucks. A-power also will assemble the system for free.

Id also suggest the A7N8X over the A7V8X.... NForce 2 is faster. Some of thoose prices seem so so.... but 179 is high for just a 9000. Id also get a GF4 4200 over a 9000.

Yes again I'll remind some of you this is in Canadian funds. Anyway to the rest I don't know many places that will do much better, this is from Deals Direct and they seem to be pretty good with pricing. I am on a budget though that is why a) I didn't get the NForce and b) the 9000 over the ti2400, both have about a 50 - 70$ difference. But if its going to cause me a lot of pain then I guess I will change to the Nforce. Anything else I should change? How good is the 9000 in comparision to a ti4200 ?

You ask for our advice..... take it. First of all..... you posted $179 for a ATI 9000..... you can get a 9100 for less then $100 (Canadian dollars) from NCIX.com and you can get a MSI GF4 4200 for less then $195, which is about $20 more then your 9000... its WELL worth that. The 9000 is slow it will NOT play halflife 2 well at all, nor will a GF4 MX. Look your pulling a classic mistake.... your getting a fast CPU but a slow video card! What's the point! So you can load AOL 1 second faster? Listen.... there is NO point in a fast PC without a fast video card.... Id go 4200 MINIMUM. And why a 128MB 9000? any game that might actually NEED 128MB video memory... is gonna run like trash on a 9000. 128MB on a 9000.... is like a pickup truck with a 75HP engine pullin it along.... sure its got lots of room but it isn't going anywhere, so it doesnt much matter how much room it has. Basically... if you need to drop down to a 2100+ to get a GF4 4200 or something else faster DO IT! Overall your PC will be MUCH faster.

Second... since your on a budget.... skip the SATA drive... their no faster. Get a 8MB cache 120GB or something for the same price. Heck the A7V8X doesnt even have SATA so you cant even use a SATA drive.

Third since your on such a budget stay with the A7V8X.... unless you can get the A7N8X for like $15 or $20 more.... you DONT need the deluxe... it just has the Nvidia soundstorm audio and 2 LAN ports..... the normal A7N8X has both onboard audio and onboard LAN.

I don't know why you took down the prices. We are trying to HELP you and prevent you from getting ripped off.
