I live in NYC, any place other than the 20-miles-away Target where I might be able to find cheap used games?

aircasper,

Is there another GameStop around that you could call and verify their version of the deal? Here in Cincy I will only have to pay tax to get The Getaway for free. It seems that every store had a different version of the deal....hence all the bad info. and unruliness of the thread. Maybe call GameStop corp. offices and find out exactly what they say the deal is? I saw a thread started at phatwallet.com that confirmed my info.

Itaintrite,

yes, I think you got the idea right...grab a couple of cheap games for any of the three major systems and they should take them.

as long as they are getting your money, I don't see why not. I saw a post at another website where some one claims to have done exactly that!!!

I heard The Getaway is pure crap. Its already out in Europe. People have told me that it looks like a PS one game.

i checked another gamestop and they told me essentially the same thing. this second store gives $20 credit per game, but then prices all the new releases (even the getaway) at $50, so you still have to shell out $10 per game. on the bright side, the store was offering the same deal for ghost recon and the sims. i ended up picking up 3 copies of the sims to resell, figuring it just came out recently for the ps2. it definitely seems like the deal varies by store. oh well. still a good way to recycle old games.

I checked out THREE target stores today and none of them carry either of those old games you mention, Chris...that's pretty amazing that your Target still has em!

They were definitely hard to find....another game to look for @ Target for cheap is Eighteen Wheeler for GCUBE...it should be around $7.58 and I also picked up Extreme G3 Racing for GCUBE for $7.58. The way I am finding them is to look for games with the red clearance stickers....evey week they reduce them another 50%. Often they do not continue to mark them...just grab em and take to a scanner...even the employees are amazed. If GameStop continues this promo monthly I will never pass up a sub $10 game ever again!!!

aircasper'

It is odd you mention that, I just got Ghost Recon from a third GameStop who had a sign which listed all five games in the deal. I will be going back for Sims...also, the deal lasts until the end of the month, I was given a copy of Ghost Recon on the spot as it has already been released!!! He still insisted that The Getaway is free though...I think they are trying to hose you for $10, I'd call corporate on their asses!!! So this deal was actually good on the following 5 new releases:

DOA: Extreme Volleyball (Xbox)
The Getaway (PS2)
The Sims (PS2)
Ghost Recon (PS2)
Devil May Cry 2 (PS2)

I read in Tallgeese's thread that some folks are being told that Ghost Recon is for the GCUBE only...I have the PS2 version...and a receipt to prove it!!!

Itaintrite,

I have to agree with you about The Getaway...this game was announced 2 years ago and is just now hitting the shelves. I have not heard a single bad thing about the game. A big difference between The Getaway and the Grand Theft Auto series is that Sony actually licensed the rights to use the real automobiles in The Getaway. If you look at the cars in GTA they look like the model of cars we think they are, but they do not use the automobile name. In the Getaway....a Lexus is just that, a Lexus. Named and modeled after the real car.

GameStop needs to get it's act together. As I read each of the various posts in this thread it seems like they have no idea what they are doing!!!!!!

Just did this deal in the Gamestop/Funcoland at Pasadena, CA. I actually went int with three games to trade in, but I checked out the PS2 shelf and saw a copy of used MDK 2 for $8. So I grabbed that game, went to the counter and ask the clerk if I can buy the used game, then use it for trade in. He laughed once he figured out what I was trying to do, and gladly agreed! :) He even offered to use some $3 sports game instead, but then realized that the sports games doesn't work. :( Either way, I came out ahead.

BTW, just so you guys know, if you buy a game at Gamestop, and realize that within 7 days you don't like the game, you can take it in and trade for another. I don't know how liberal they are with this policy, but I wasn't too sure of how DOA:XBV plays and was afraid I might not like it, but now I feel assured knowing that I can just trade it in for another game that I know I will like. Between this and lower price compare to EB for used games, Gamestop is starting to become my favorite game retailer.

..I bought games at Target for $3.74 each and used them to trade in for DOA:Volleyball. The one was only worth $8.00 in their sytem but they gave me the $20!!!!

So this is a good way to get rid of those old games or you can do what I did: Blood Omen 2 (PS2) for $3.74, Dakken (PS2) for $3.74, and Legion: The Legend of Excalibur (PS2) for $6.75 all at Target. Buy them and trade!!!!!
.

Are these games still around I went to two targets and I found nothing...

You CAN buy the cheapest used games at GameStop and then trade them right back in. I did it and posted the story in TallGeese's Xbox thread.
