The January New Release special @ GameStop is a $20 trade in value on 2 of any PS2, XBOX, or GCUBE game (excludes dated sports and wrestling) when put towads pre-order of Getaway, Devil May Cry 2, or DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball all for PS2(see note below).

NOTE: I went to two different GameStops and they had some discrepencies in the deal. I was at the first store and was told that only The Getaway would be free because Sony titles retailed @ $39.99. Thus the $40 trade in would cover it (sans tax). I was told the other two titles would cost $9.99 + tax each as they would retail for $49.99. The second Game Stop told me that The Getaway, and Devil May Cry 2 would both be free......and that DOA was not included in the deal!!!!! Anyhow, I reserved DOA:Volleyball at the first store and I will be reserving the other 2 games at the second store. The new titles are PS2 only...trade-ins can be any of the big 3 systems!!

You can trade in any game (except Sports and Wrestling) and you will be given the full $20 trade in value no matter what the system says they are worth. I can verify this....I bought games at Target for $3.74 each and used them to trade in for DOA:Volleyball. The one was only worth $8.00 in their sytem but they gave me the $20!!!!

So this is a good way to get rid of those old games or you can do what I did: Blood Omen 2 (PS2) for $3.74, Dakken (PS2) for $3.74, and Legion: The Legend of Excalibur (PS2) for $6.75 all at Target. Buy them and trade!!!!!

Edit...read the post by pharo below.

Edit #2 I just got back from reserving DMC2....it is $9.99 after trade in. Sorry for bad info. earlier. Still a great deal. I edited thread title to reflect facts.

Sounds like a good deal except DOA:Volleyball is not for the PS2, it is an Xbox exclusive.

Maybe that's why the second store did not mention it. No big deal...I have all 3 systems!!!:)

I just wanted to know, ANY game would do? I got one old game I want to trade in, and well... maybe pick up a used ps2 game for cheap while I am there to trade in :p You think that would work?

No sign of this on the Gamestop site - only free shades with DOAXBV. (Tecmo has a uber-cool poster for those who order it from them.) I need further proof before I get my hopes up too high. (They have PS2 games at Target for $4?!?)

I Think it's only for the B&M stores.
Online store doesnt have anything to do with these trade-in deals.

what he said!

Prismic,

that's exactly what I would do. I went in EB games and saw a copy of Extermination for $7.99. Even if you bought it for $7.99 and another used game for $9.99.........$17.98 + tax as trade in on a brand new, decently reviewed game, that sells for $40 - $50 is a heck of a deal!

Remember, GameStop is the same company as Babbages and Funcoland. I understand that at least Funcoland is participating also (if there are any around..ours changed to GameStop!).

What are the dates that this trade in special is running from/to?

The way I see it is they take any PS2/Xbox/GC game except dated
sports & wrestling and you preorder one of those games (of cource YMMV)
and thats it?

Sounds like I am off to Target to look for cheap games.

I'm sorry...the dates of the promotion are the one piece of info. I do not have. It is going on now. Since it is a pre-order, I'd assume that you would need to check the official release date of the title(s) you are interested in and make sure you get there before then!

This is REALLY HOT if they'll accept any ps2 games except for sports/wrestling titles.

Thanks for posting.

LaLaLand,

I was wondering about the T-Shirt and shades also. I will be at GameStop later today and I will ask. I have already done the deal on DOA:Volleyball (Dennis Rodman's voice is gonna make my skin crawl!!!), and The Getaway. I have 2 more games I am gonna trade for Devil May Cry 2 today.

This seems like a deal that can only be done at actual retail store locations, and is perhaps local to a specific region. May I ask, those of you who have already cashed in on this deal, what city and state are you from? I am from Berkeley, CA. If anyone lives around this area, may I also ask which particular gamestop location did you go to? Thanks!

thanks for the heads up. i've been dragging a bunch of old ps2 games in the trunk of my car for the past 2 months, thinking i'd eventually make my way to eb games to trade them in. i tried trading them in at gamestop a while back, but they were going to give me next to nothing for them. here's a good way to get rid of a few of them. i don't really have an interest in DMC2, but the Getaway sounds interesting. any idea whether i could also get DMC2 and exchange it for another game somewhere?

I do not think there was any kind of limit. I was thinking of getting several copies of each and selling them. Surely EBGames or EB would give you at least $20 for DMC2 several days after it's release. They might do a trade flat out if it is unopened. Hell, take it to a different GameStop and see what trade in value would be.

actually, that's quite ingenious! i didn't even think of that. this will be a great opportunity to get rid of some of my old games!

argh! went to gamestop and they're telling me that the trade in requires a $10 payment for EITHER the getaway or dmc2. apparently, they won't give a full $40 credit for purchasing the getaway, even though you do get $40 credit for dmc2. for either game, they require a $10 payment.

i originally preordered the getaway, but then thought that dmc2 would be worth more for me to resell, given the fact that both games cost me an additional $10 and dmc2 retails for $50 while the getaway retails for $40.

this was in the bay area btw. maybe the deal is different elsewhere? i wish i could've gotten an even trade on two games for the getaway game. oh well. have others been able to do this? chrisjor, did you successfully trade-in 2 games for the getaway without an additional $10 payment required?

so if i'm correct, you'll need any two games (excluding dated sports titles) used or new and possibly $10 to preorder one of these 3 games? Can I just go to a software etc store and buy two of their used games then use those two games to tradein??
