It is actually a decent deal if you get the red PCB version, because you can use Rivatuner to mod it to a 9700, possibly a 9700 pro.
I was mislead by a certain deals site (techbarg...) that listed it as the Pro. I checked it all out and everything macthed up but the "Pro" 
I see alot of 9500 non pro's for like $140-160 range so what makes this decent? Only some use the red PCB's? I'm told thats one of the few or only major hardware difference between the 9500 pro and 9700 models. Not sure about the non pro though, arent some piplines missing on the non pro version or is it just disabled which can be reenabled via a soft mod?

If it is indeed the Red PCB one with an 'L' shaped memory layout as the picture shows, you can use a software hack to enable 4 pipelines and increase the memory bus to 256 bits. However, this is not guaranteed to work.

of course i spent $165 for just a couple weeks ago :|
They still do. Just do a search for Radeon 9500 128mb and both will list - the "new black version" and the old red one labeled as just "sapphire radeon"

no no no, you can't get a 9500 non-pro to 9700 pro levels

Well, there is no such card. The 9500 np can only mod to a 9700np. The 9700pro has faster rated memory, and therefore can be clocked much higher. You may be able to overclock the modded 9500np to standard 9700pro levels, but the 9700pro will be able to OC much higher due to it's faster memory.
however, you could effectivley take a 9500np and come out with a 9700pro. sounds like a hleuva deal to me
Actually the 9500np can be OC to be a 9700p (which is just a 9700np overclocked.)
The fact that you can OC a 9700p more is of no importance.
By the way I have mine running right now, I've had it for about 6mos and it works great, I run it @ 1280x1024 and so far every game runs flawlessly. Maybe when something starts giving it trouble I'll upgrade.
I completely agree! I paid three times as much for a 9700pro when it came out. Love the card. I needed a second one for a second gaming pc.
This deal, for the Saphhire Radeon 9500, rocks. If you check the customer feedback over at newegg, this card softmods great, and overclocks just as well.
Needless to say, I just ordered one myself, thanks to the original poster for posting, just saved me $150 plus.
hot if you can get it to mod AND overclock to 9700 Pro speed.
Hotter than the PowerColor R9700np for ~ $200 since the PC sports Infineon 3.3ns memory that apparently can't run too far from 297~303MHz.

the one from the picture can be turn into a 9700, not so sure if its the one when it arrives though.
I just suck at this reading comprehension tonight. I now see that I was looking
at a 9500 Pro refurb that has DVI, so I still don't know if the new 9500 has it or
not. And is the NP at $149 a better deal than the Pro Refurb for $129?
The picture seems to have it, unless I'm wrong about that connector that looks like a DVI input connector.
If I remember right, the 9500 has everything the 9700 has except for the memory bandwith. And that is what the softmod takes care of. I could be wrong but I believe that all the 9700's (and therefore 9500's) had DVI.
