The reason people have problems with this being your first posts are that a) you chose to use them to complain about the forums and b) it makes it look like you're a regular user who's afraid of getting their regular name banned.

If your only reason for signing up here was to complain about something, then get a life. I don't care how much you may lurk in these forums, to create a username because you want to complain is just pathetic. I'm not saying you should've waited a while until posting about it, I'm saying you should've either gotten over it, or started lurking somewhere else.

<< And if hot deals are such a crime, then I they better take down the hot deals forum. Wouldn't want to upset anyone, would we >>

Who ever said anything about upsetting people? I dont care if people get upset. Personally, i dont like the HD forum, since it is full of whiners. I dont visit it, to get away from the same people who complain that they didnt get their card for an insane price.

AAMOF, you were the one who was upset that AT wouldnt allow people to complain about not being able to steal from a company. That is what tkaing advantage is, you know.

In short, it is ok to compain if BB decides to charge you twice, because you are being stolen from.

It is not ok to complain that you couldnt steal from BB.

The message of the forum is that stealing is bad.

Here's my stab at a more constructive reply since you appear to be more sincere in your latter posts, bastion :)

<< I had never posted on these forums until today, and only started an account to post my original question, so I do not know where this accusation comes from. >>

Just ignore those accusations. I think you sound less like a jackass than you did in your original post. I suppose members here (incl myself) would jump to that conclusion because it's been done numerous times in the past, i.e. banned or disgruntled members re-registering to air out some flames. FYI posting under more than 1 handle is a bannable offense.

<< It just seems kind of rude to simply cut everyone off. I would have figured there was something else they could have done instead. >>

I have to agree with you here. The mods are rude at times. *shrug*

*yawwwwwwn*

You think you're the first to post this?
Dead beat, rotted, scattered remains of the horse.

you do realize that ferengi are what we refer to as the people in Hot Deals. I have actually never seen any star trek, nor star wars movies.

i'm proud of that :)

Clearly, bastion is brilliant. Otherwise he would not already be so knowledgable after so short a time here. BTW, dipshit, if you're going to whine about a thread, at least give us a link.

It's not as if what goes on in these forums is difficult to figure out. One can gain knowledge of them just by lurking which incidentally is what many hot-dealers do.

LOL... no guts to use your real name, yet you claim to only wish to discuss this. :rolleyes at the wuss:

Let me clue you in...
The best buy geforce4 threads= there were no less than 30 of them, all crying, moaning, or trying to find ways to cheat best buy.

The threads started getting locked as soon as people started the "let's get even with best buy and cheat them -chant"

Get over yourself, just because you wanted to bash the bestbuy/geforce4 topic...as you already stated there are plenty of places for you to do this... *waves goodbye* bye happy travels.

Bastion, welcome. Thanks for raising your concerns. You have accomplished it in a very constructive manner. I would advise that you disregard comments from those who have nothing constructive to state, for such would not be new and is their nature.

See, now, those things don't matter much to me anymore since I stopped shopping for hot deals. My original reason for being on Anandtech was my eagerness to build myself a PC back then. I went through sites on instructions and explanation on how to build a computer. I often searched the main page and never bothered to click on this stuff called 'forum'. It was one day I was in my numerical analysis class where we had computers. I was quite bored with the professor's lectures, so I was checking out websites. And then I noted this guy next to me posting or something on a hot deal site. So, I asked what was up. He told me it was some hot deal forum. At that time, I was in search of hot deals for reasonably priced computer parts and softwares, so I jumped in. I think bolt.com was an issue at the time, so I posted in that regard.

Anyway, that is what brought me to the forum really. Now, everything's been settled, so I'm not about to get greedy for more. I'm content. However, for those who still shop around, it is a valid point you have there.

I have often been very disappointed in the conducts of the moderators. I have witnessed so much unprofessionalism, attack of individuals, personal statements made when querying a member. I understand this is a private forum, but that does not immune private entities from criticism or grievances. Those of you who keep begging the question with that argument of it being a private entity, do you say the same about private schools, for instance? You never criticise them or file grievance? Yes, it is a private entity, but much is expected from a private entity too, for the people are part of what makes it. If membership were to decrease significantly, would it be the same note you speak?

So, again, do not feel daunted, Bastion. Your grievance was appropriately filed, for it affects the members--not just the admin. If it is necessary to be moved elsewhere (and I do not mean locked or deleted), then I suppose the mods will move it accordingly. Do not mind what others say, if they are saucy in nature. :)

Thankyou for that response. Based on what you and others have said, I am editing the original title of this thread.

Exactly. Welcome to ATOT, where we pick apart your posts, jump to conclusions, and flamewars abound!! While that is true, there is still a lot of fun to be had here (here's an example :p) once you learn to ignore the flaming, name-calling threads. :)

FYI, there is a FI forum here for you to air out complaints and probs with the forums or mods.

I really don't think the mods are "rude". They have a job to do and they can't play favorites.

If they came in here to respond, everyone and their dog would demand the same kind of action every time they had a question.

In time you wil learn there are a few things Mods don't like, aviod those things and you'll be fine.

I've pissed off a LOT of people here with my tone and position and I've never been sensored by a Moderator.

I think they do a great job at walking the line between freedom of discussion and unbreakable rules that must be inforced.

Sorry luvly, though i have the utmost respect for your calm and well written post, your wrong.

The original posters first post had a direct and personal grievance towards this Bestbuy/geforce4 topic as seen in the following sentence.

<< Hmmm. . . seems to me that voicing a legitimate complaint about how a major company is screwing over thousands of customers >>

This is entirely opinion generated by a disgruntled person who may want to find a way for Best Buy to get what they deserve.

Sorry luvly this type of action cannot be supported or allowed by AT or they may find themselves in court. the SMARTEST course of action was for them to distance themselves from this type of discussion, so they can't be held liable for anything that may happen.

Bastion,

Since there is a thread on this page right now discussing this issue, I'm trying to figure out exactly what you're bitching about.

<< They have a job to do and they can't play favorites. >>

lol

It doesn't mean they don't. If you're an Elite member you can do just about anything short of killing another member and NOT get banned. Things that would normally get some people banned are overlooked because the Elites are personally known by the mods.

I accept it as the way things are, but you can't tell me they don't play favorites.

Again i am proven correct..

The original post title was "ethics of the moderators"

But that's not what the poster wanted to discuss at all, they wanted to discuss the Best Buy/Geforce4 issue as i stated!!! That's why they changed the title to now read "EDIT: Reasons for the handling of the Best Buy Issue "

I TOLD YOU!! Nah, nah, nah, i told you....

I will just have to say I haven't seen it, although I have wondered how some members have gotten to Elite status...
