I suppose you're correct that I do love being right. But OTOH, righteous indignation in service of faith in magazine propaganda is its own kind of ego.

There's this car-talk dialog which magazines do about rwd handling or whatever because that's all they can do within the confines of a page, which enthusiasts cheerfully emulate, but at the end of the day you're just going to go test drive some cars and get one you like so none of that really matters.

In the end a sedan isn't really about the best instrumented times on the street anyways. This is kinda an older comparison but driving them all I thought it was pretty useful. Mirrors my impressions driving the 3 as well.

Updated original post earlier today. Got an ATS with the little turbo. I really like it. Flaws and all.
I feel attached to it already, its the perfect combination of personality and compliance for me.
The Malibu was a great sedan for its time. But even with my attachment to inanimate objects and associating a character trait and a name to them, I didn't even look up as they drove it to the auction yard.
Comfy, loyal, dependable...but no soul. Empty.
This Caddy is already different. I think I'll name it.

Interesting, this is potentially on my list to replace the Mazda 3 when the lease is up. How are the seats (highly adjustable?), And how's the general noise level on the highway? Curious to hear your general thoughts on the whole car!

I havent made a good assessment on the seats since my longest drive has been twenty minutes. I only played with back and forth, and height + seat bottom incline. It has adjustable lumbar.
My preliminary answer is that isn't a crazy 10 way adjustable seat. More like the standard 6 or so.
Highway noise seems quiet. But I haven't given that a fair shake. I'll have time to cruise for a few miles and turn down the radio this weekend.

Congrats on the new car! If you are looking for a lively feeling sports sedan I think the ATS is the best currently available.

I'm a little envious, I think the turbo with the stick is the best feeling of the ones available (I had to get the auto for my wife to be able to drive it).

Hi Demo24. I thought I would give you my experience on the seats and noise level of the ATS.

My impressions on the seats are good. My wife is a good deal shorter than I am. I am also comfortable with the seats of my Lotus, where one comes close to sitting on the floor with stretched out legs, where my wife likes a higher seating position. Our ATS is able to accommodate both of our different body shapes, and tastes in seating positions. There are a couple different seats available on the ATS, mine is the “performance” version with 8-way power adjust and 2-way lumbar support. The seats are on the firm-side, but not outright hard. They do not have as much side support as full on performance oriented seats, but they are supportive and comfortable.

The noise level is good while cruising on the highway. My aunt has a Lexus 350 that I helped her buy. I think my ATS is just slightly louder than her Lexus at cruising speed. The ATS is much quieter than my Lotus, and a little quieter than my Impreza. I will say though that the engines are a little “peaky” on these cars. Even the v-6 is not the high torque low revving engine that I associate with GM products in general, and Caddies in particular. If you are hard in the gas pedal the rpm’s jump quickly and the so does the engine noise (but I’m 46, and am used to GM products that have more torque than power and are lazy revving).
 
Nice choice. Buddy traded in a G8 for ATS. The dealership was working on his G8 and gave ATS as loaner. He liked it so much he didn't want to give it back!
 
I was pretty busy the first weekend I got it. No time to detail it on my own and remove the high gloss crap the dealer's "detailer" put all over the interior. Right away after picking it up from the detailer, it was squealing badly from the belt or idler pulley. I figured I would give it a few days if it was the belt, but it wasn't. The dealer replaced the pulley Saturday and I was regulated to driving the dealer's ATS. I was re-united this morning.

congrats, which engine choice did you get? I really don't think you can make a wrong choice in this segment these days.
