EDIT: My dad wants a DLP HDTV now...opinions suggestions?

My dad's changed his mind and saw a DLP TV at Best Buys showroom floor.
He wants a DLP now with a minimum screen size of 55 inches.

I know Samsung was one of the first manufacturers to make them but, are they the best?

Can anyone recommend some good models?

I'll be perusing www.avforums.com as well for some ideas.

Does anyone have any positive or negative comments on this unit?

Perhaps some similar or better models for around the same price? My dad is willing to pay up to $2500 for a new TV.

Supposedly this unit is a WS-55511, from Mitsubishi's Platiunum series, can anyone confirm or deny this?

You should have your father talk to a manager instead.
I'm sure they'll be more than willing to throw in extended warranty as well.
They probably don't want to lose the 2k+ sale.

what exactly is DLP? I always thought it was a digital light projector, the one linked looks like a RPTV?

My dad is going to get a new TV this summer, replace the old 35" we have. The budget he gave me is like $5K.

Digital Light Processor, its a chip developed by Texas Instruments that both projectors and RPHDTV's use.

I've been doing some more research on TV's and came upon LCoS which Liquid Crystal on Silicone.

This one from Toshiba looks sweet Toshiba LCoS HDTV

IMO, I wouldn't bother with a Projection TV. If you're going to mess with projection, get a projector. A high quality projector can be had within your budget, and a high-quality screen will look much better than the RP material the RPTV contains.
