A few months ago, I convinced my dad to let me buy a Mac Mini. I am under 18, thus I cant buy it myself. After a few months of use, I've decided I want to completely "switch" and sell my Windows PC for a 15" Powerbook. Whereas the Mini was only $600, the Powerbook will be about $2100. My Dad hasn't changed his standpoint that Mac's suck, so that makes things harder.

His arguments against:
Its a waste of money (?????)
Macs Suck

My arguments for:
I want it
Wont use as much electricity
I Hate Windows, Love OS X
Wont have to borrow his laptop again.
I'll show him http://www.xvsxp.com/

One of my ideas to help sway his mind is to let him use my Mini for a few days to prove that Macs dont suck. Anyone else have any other ideas for me? Thanks.

*EDIT* Cliff Notes
1. Post a simple problem on ATOT.
2. Flame war

How am I suppose to buy a $2100 laptop?? It's not that I don't have the money, its that I have no way to buy it (ex. credit card).

Listen to your father. $2,000+ on a laptop? Apparently finacial planning isn't in your future.

wait till you get older and get your own job. I would say no on the basis of 2100 dollars.

You mean you don't know how to use federal reserve notes?

EDIT: Or money orders?

Or traveler's checks?

Or cashier's checks?

Or personal checks?

Here's a thought: sell your PC (assuming you own it), get a job, save some money, and buy yourself a Mac. Why do you even need your father for this?

Kids these days... sigh.

with that $2100 you could get a good pc.

Do you really need a laptop that much?

I suppose being under 18 one would think a mac is a good computer... :p

I guess when you grow up you learn that pc's are the way to go. :D

Listen to your dad.

He sounds like a smart man, and you sound more like an end-user than a geek.

Get a debit card or check account.

Some CC even let you use them if you are 18 with your parents permission.

...the Mini was only $600

Christ, you could have gotten SO MUCH PC for less than that! You are such a typical Mac hype swallower, I'd be embarrassed to death if I were your dad!

If you are going to buy a laptop for $2.1k, it IS a waste of MONEY.

Get one of those Dell laptops with 40% off.

Oh and it's convincing, not confincing

Because he can run Mac OS X and iLife '05 on a PC, huh? Of course, you would understand since you condoned your son getting a PowerBook, no?

I'd love to own a PowerBook, but I'd recommend waiting it out for Intel PowerBooks. Although I'd never buy one myself, at current prices, the new 14" iBook spanks the PowerBooks in value.

Funny how many people mentioned Dell Inspirons; sure they're dirt-cheap but you get what you pay for.
