But please if you get said Pruis please do not try and race with it. Had a 2010 Pruis try to race my Fusion Hybrid...lets just say it wasn't pretty for him. Though it's strangely absurd because neither of us can rev our engine while stopped...

did you two turn up your airconditioners to get each others attention?

LOL...awesome. So are you going to bite on this even if you don't sell the Maxima first?
I am. I am out next week and cannot sell the maxima unless it sells before then. Seems to be going horrendously on craigslist (some douche with an IQ of perhaps 90 called [PROOF: had never used google maps] and somebody else asked for more pics but so far that's it). I've stepped it up a bit but I cannot put in the local paper until I'm back. I think the Toyota lease deals are terminating on the 5th. I have no idea what they'll do then, perhaps be similar but it seems _really_ unlikely I cannot get at least $3500 for the Maxima, so that's the intent.

I had Max out last evening and it was idling and I smelled exhaust and I was kind of like ugh I'm just tired of maintaining two older cars. Our newer car has 90k on it.

The Prius sure as sh*t isn't fast. Not in any way whatsoever. Hybrids racing is kind of like minivans racing, though; even when you win you've still lost in the grand scheme ;)

I raced (and beat!) some old 80s Nissan pickup truck once. It was pretty amusing. He was giving it all she had.. Became visibily pissed.. LOL.

That's the one thing about hybrids.. The torque from the electric motor feels good on the butt dyno, even though they aren't the fastest things on the road by any means.

Oh trust me, I realize the hybrid racing thing...but I couldnt resist...he had it lowered, with 19 or 20 inch rims and a fartcan exhaust(WHY?!?!?!!!) And Eli is right the insta-torque feels quite nice..and still I can 0-60 in about 8.4sec, faster then the normal I4 fusion despite being 500 pounds heavier

Yeah, you go ahead and convince my boss to give me a $12k raise (about 24k of the ~35 is my commute).

Better yet, find me a job that pays mileage for employee commutes! I mean those jobs are so common amirite?

Oh... then you live closer? Or if you live that far from work, I'm guessing the cost of living savings more than pays for your gas costs.

Modding a hybrid like that is really sad. You should be man enough to admit that you have little testosterone left in your body (actually the fusion hybrid is a much "cooler" car than the Prius) and not fake it. Man up with everything you have left, even if it's very little.

Supra is changing that.

V6 Hybrid in the next few years.

Actually, the future will all be performance hybrids.

110 mile commute/day for work. I spend $220/mo on gas for work, but I live at home so no rent/utilities/etc

Toyota has been a few years short of a new Supra for like at LEAST a decade. When is this duke nukem, er, supra really coming?

I did see Lexus has a new hybrid but it's got the same powertrain I think as the Prius. I can't see buying a Lexus slower than a minivan.

I don't like having two old cars at the same time either, bout a 5-6 yr gap between them is fine

Skoorb... Your thread inspired me to check the value of my car. My wife works for an insurance company and can pull up the most recent info on the web by plugging in the VIN. I have a 2000 Infiniti I30t. Basically the same as your Maxima. Its valued at $6900.00 with 160k miles on it. Surely your Max can't be much less than that...?

Perhaps for insurance but I think you'd never get that on the market, not private party or trade in. My car is listed at $4550 on Craigslist and nobody gives a sh*t. I can find a 2003 Maxima on CL for $6500 with under 100k, so that's why. CL is land of the low ball, though. Once I can get it in the paper it will be more reasonable. I guess I really just have to wait until somebody who "must" have a 5 speed sees my listing, because there are very few of those.

Within 200 miles of me I see a 2000 i30 for $4600 with 151k miles (dealer).

$6900 with 111k miles (dealership)
$5500 123k miles (private)

These are asking prices mind you.

In the end none of the estimators mean anything unfortunately, it's what the market can bear.

10 years? It was introduced in 2007...

Currently set for 2011 intro as a 2012 car, so another 2 years to wait but still. I think the FT-86 (Celica) is going to come out around the same time.

YEARS ago I read about Toyota coming out with a new Supra. I remember lots of artists renderings, certainly around the turn of the century.

EDIT: More about it here: http://www.topspeed.com/cars/toyota/2008-toyota-supra-ar6872.html

And this from 2005! http://www.v6performance.net/forums/showthread.php?t=51177

Other dealership: $1750 down, $259/month for 18k miles/year on a Prius III. But I don't want a Prius III, I want a II, so waiting on numbers. I think they will be close, so that's when I tell him what the other place did and how is he gonna beat it?

Maybe it's just me but I have never seen a line of automobile SO uncompelling to upgrade. I mean the Prius II and Prius V seem to differ very little. The other has nav and leather and a couple of baubles. Maybe fog lights, but hell it doesn't even say on the back of the car the model, so you end up paying $7k more for basically a few gadgets and leather.

Uh, the difference between 3rd gen and 2nd gen is huge.

So what is the difference between a II and a III? You mention the V, but not what the difference between the II and a III.

I mean varying levels of the 3rd gen (2010), not 2nd vs 3rd gen. The diff between II and III from what I can tell is JBL audio plus maybe something else depending on its particular trim but it seemed money poorly spent.

Well believe it or not this salesman seems to be dragging his ass on getting back to me. I'VE sent him a few texts and he's responded (I am ok on phone but he knows I cannot steal time away during day for phone calls easily) that he'd get right back to me, etc. but here I am and they close in 20 min and nothing. He's a young guy, early 20's, probably having a trouble managing his time. I would go elsewhere but I really actually want to buy it from this dealership because it's close by and has lifetime warranty on powertrain (not that I'm likely to ever use that, i realize, so it's worth very little).

I wonder what the fine print is on that with a hybrid. Is the battery pack part of the "drivetrain"?

Great question! Not sure. I need also to find if it extends past a lease car if I subsequently "buy" it, since this technically is only for new vehicles. Not sure how they'd do on a transition. Also if it requires all the stupid 30k and all that extra crap that's not in the manual it's just a waste of money.
