I think I forgot to mention, the reason the charity "One Laptop Per Child" failed was because the laptops were very underpowered, they were giving out laptops that were nicknamed "The $100 laptop" and it was the cheapest laptop ever made in history at that point.

I think if they were giving out gaming laptops the charity would have done just fine and would still be active today.

Maybe you should quit thinking. They make mops and brooms for a reason, and they aren't gonna push themselves ;^)

They'd have run out of money 20x faster!

Why do you think that they were providing laptops to kids?

You are not qualified to judge anything.

I have resisted the urge and trust me it has been difficult but I'm a middle-aged curmudgeon get off my lawn @olds basement survivor and tour guide.

How do you plan on running this charity?
  • Option 1 - somehow find old laptops, refurb them, fix them up, make them pretty and hand them out of a free candy van down by the river.
  • Option 2 - ask chatgpt, properly establish and register a legit charity. I asked Google Gemini and it looks like a lot of forms, red tape and some $ to do it legit.

bonus question, how do you plan on launching this ambitious venture when you can't even afford a "gaming laptop"?

I want the laptops have at least 1 year warranty so I need the laptops to be new.

I plan on getting a construction job soon, the reason I don't already is because I have delusional parasitosis, studies have shown ECT helps with delusional parasitosis and im currently on a waiting list to get approved.

I was going to record YouTube videos of giving out the first couple of gaming laptops to poor kids and ask viewers for donations to give more poor kids gaming laptops.

I say this from the privilege of having a stable job and living conditions, but something about filming your own charity really rubs me the wrong way. Asking for donations and showing the folks benefiting is one thing, but "look at what a good person I am" is just grating.

That said, it's better than not giving at all.

I wanted to get a bunch of views not so people would see what a good person I am, but so these viewers would donate to my charity which would give me more money to give out more laptops.

If you're really serious about it look into what it takes to start a non profit corporation and go from there. If I recall at some point Bill Gates had a charity to provide computers to schools, maybe do something like that.
