What is the best printer I could buy for under $75.
I need it for basic use, mostly text, some pictures, nothing crazy.
The cheaper the better (including cartridges, etc.).

If you can get a stock clearance deal on a Canon S300, get it. Speed and resolution are very good, the thing is reasonably sturdy, supplies aren't nearly as expensive as for other printers in that price range. The inks are common since the S200, i320 and S330 use the same ones, and there are 3rd party ink cartridges too.

Another vote for the Canon S300 or if you can spend a few $'s more, I think you would be quite impressed with the Canon i550 which can be had for around $89 after rebate

With the i550 THAT low, I'd definitely go for it. Separate inks, much more speed, twice the resolution, zero margin photo prints.

how about the Canon S750 Color Bubble Jet Printer for $89 in my gold box?

well i went for it...$102 shipped seems like a pretty good deal.

The 750 is a faster incarnation of the 500 which in turn is two steps older than the 550. The price is an almost ridiculous bargain.
