?

i would presume sapphire, but ive had a connect 3d radeon 9500pro that screamed its way past 360mhz. :)

EDIT: anyone know of any reviews of the Gainward BLISS 7900GT golden sample?

its a 512mb version of the 7900GT, has 1400Mhz mem and 550Mhz core, and will probably be cherry picked to overclock more

Al should be the same. Unless you want us to get into the individual componenets lie quality of capicitors and mosfets on the pcb, its the cooling solution and luck that determine the ability of a particualr chip to oc. If coolingf s the same, then its realyl luck of the draw tell you the truth.

oh yeah i think i recall reading something, or someones post that said they pretty much make all the cards at one factory...

the cooling solution will be the first to go, if its too loud, ill whack an aftermarket cooler on it

Very few aftermarket coolers cool it better then the blower (and exhaust it out the back).

i know, thats the trouble, its good at its job....jus have to wait n see about the noise

im loooking to pick up a 2nd hand XTX.... spending no more than £280-290 (generally go on ebay for 260-270) but ive just seen the Gainward golden sample 7900GT.... 512mb ram at 1400Mhz+ and core speed of 550Mhz +

thats a serious contender for sure, and its £270 new. but is it worth missing out on features like the HQ AF and AA and HDR and going for more speed?

has anyone got any links to reviews of that card>?////////

More speed? Even the GTX cant beat a XTX so... Unless you oc'd the GT to 700/1800 or something

suppose

guess im jus abit iffy about going back to ATi and getting used to their drivers again....so much has changed since i last used an ATi card.

the one in my brothers current rig uses some rather old drivers made by that omega guy...got built in overclocking! though its pretty much standard issue now...it wasnt at the time

I'd go for the X1900XT(X). You should be able to get it to 700/1600 on some good cooling.

Considering that the X1900XTX is nearly as powerful as 2x7900GT's...and the HQAF and AA+HDR are so worth it :)

There are not any reviews that I know of otis.

The card you are looking at is identical to my Xpertvision 7900GT Sonic 512mb card, save for minor details like silk screening, fan art, ram sinks. Gainward/Xpertvision/Palit are all pretty much the same thing, all built in the one factory.

Gainward
Xpertvision
Palit

The PCB is a custom design by the way, not a premanufactured reference board.

The fan on these cards is whisper quiet, quite suprised me when I first heard one given the size and my experience with leadtek's 6800GT fan.

Some images of my board for you.

So how would you vmod the Gainward one??? If you were to go 7900GT, I would say go for any of the cheaper 256mb model's. They can easily be vmodded to run at much higher speeds.

If it were between a 7900GT and a X1900, I would say just go for a cheap X1900XT if your looking for a single card solution. If you don't like their drivers than just use something like ATI Tray Tools and RivaTuner. You should be able to get any XT to XTX speeds on the stock cooler.

You are already at 550/1400 with the gainward cards. I think someone at overclockers australia worked out a volt mod for the cards. Username of graham, I think.

Anyhow, I did a detect frequencies test in the control panel and it came up with 595/1480, not that I'm about to overclock mine anytime soon.

cheers

OC potential is in post above. Haven't tested at those settings though, and have no plans to.

Will run a default setting 3dmark06 for you.

I got 4033 3dmarks. Everything in system running stock standard. My rig is in my signature. Take that information for whatever it may (or may not) be worth. I typically don't bother with benchmarks.

The settings (Note optimizations disabled in quality mode)

The results

EDIT:

As an aside I decided to benchmark the 6800GT in what used to be my old system (identical to the old system except for 1 gig less memory, specs in sig). It got 2300 3dmarks, which is a pretty huge boost.

Just go for the X1900.

You could probably save some money be getting the X1900XT and just OCing it to XTX speeds since almost all of the XT's can reach it even on stock cooling.

Any place in the US that you can buy a Gainward card now? If not, why not? Gainward used to be everywhere in the US.

Tweak town have a review up on the Palit variant of these cards. They test in SLi mode as well.

Good to finally have a review up.
