Well,

One of my Tyan S2460 boards, a duallie, has died. It did the old "ATX connector" burn up routine....i.e. Those boards have been known to pull too much on the 5 volt pins of the ATX due to undersized pins on the MB....well, they overheat and burn the ATX connector to a crisp on several pins.

My dual 1.4GHz TBIRD system kept locking up...wouldn't stay up for more than 15 minutes. I decided to pull the ATX and heard a "CRUNCH" :( when I pulled it off. It's crisp and black on all 4 - 5volt pins. I may try to clean the carbon from them and solder two supplemental 5 volt lines from Molex connectors...but won't have time until later! :(

I guess I need to check the other two systems that I have like this one! *sigh*

SUCKS!!!

(On a good note, I'm posting using my new one of these tonight! ;) Click me! :)

More information on the happy note!

A moment of silence for a downed cruncher...... :(

I'm having some problems with this PC, heat related I think, as it has shut down on it's own several times. Tracked the temps, without SETI a solid 53C, running SETI it had spikes up to 64C. :Q So I've had to turn off SETI (wife has to use this one) until I can get the shutdown/heat stuff figured out this weekend. :(

I had one doing the same thing and it turned out the old video card was overheating. Stuck another old video card in it and hasn't happen since.
Sometimes removing the hs/f and putting new compound on it helps also.

Not many...but it sure does show up Newegg Refurbs very well! ;)

Also, helps to order cheap Molex connectors to place in that baby and get it back up! :)

I may cut a few fan Molex off (replace with the ones I ordered tonight) and solder them on in a little while....sorta tired right now though....but I've got to get More in 04! :)

Better not be the vid card, it's a brand new 128M ATI Radeon 9200 I got for Xmas! :|

Yeah, I'll probably pull the HS/F, clean it out, and apply new compound. Although the compound on it probably only 4 months old at most.

Sorry to hear Ray! :(

I've had problems out of this PC for weeks...thought it was a dead fan problem...as it overheated...then the RAM died...just placed new RAM in last night and fired it up. It was locked up tonight. Fired it up again...died again. Discovered burnt ATX connector! :(

**Sigh**...it's only 10 WU's a day...but its OUR ten! :(

It will have been a year in 2 weeks since my last major upgrade (all i've done is added another 80gb hard drive and a RAID card!)

Hey, I have no problems with that, since I'm at work all day. But for some reason, I haven't been able to convince the wife.

Well, I just soldered an aux. +5 volt line to the bottom of each of the 4 - 5volt pins on the ATX connector (on motherboard). I've connected them together and to a spare Molex connector on the power supply. It's up and running...will monitor. If all goes OK...10 WU's a day back online! :)

Edit: Found dead fan on GeForce 2 card...replaced just for good measure. I'm posting from it right now....so far, so good! :)

Engineer,
Glad the cruncher's back up.

But, I have a problem with mine. (not a power connector) :p

Just installed a new HS&F......Zalman CNPS 7000A-Cu. Took my P4 2.6c down From a toasty 50C to an balmy 34C and when I crank the FSB up temp doesn't go above 38C. Then I start getting page fault errors and Memory dumps and all sort of weird stuff. (Win XP) Running @ default voltage 1.525 and tried to boost it a bit. Got the same problems. Can't seem to get above 217 FBS.

Sounds like the memory can't handle the speed soggysocks?

What brand/speed/etc. is the memory?

What board?

I don't know much about the p4 boards, but information may get it resolved by this great group pretty quickly! :)

Dead again. Something is damaged somewhere. Will try to part it out if I can get some stuff (i.e. Newegg refurb stuff).

"Running an ASU P4B533E board with Giel 3200 value "

Geil memory is notorious for either being awesome or being bad...and this is the value brand...if your trying to go above 217 FSB with a 1:1 ratio...dont! hehe...if your using a divider, well most cheap rams cannot run on dividers...heck....my XMS pc-3700 cannot run on any divider :( thereby limiting my 2.8 o/c to 3.2 :|

Engineer,
Was just at Newegg, lots of AMD boards, but no Duals :(

The P4B533-e is suppose to be pc2100 rated. You think Using the original Crucial 2100 I bought, two sticks 256, instead of the one 512 Geil 3200 might solve the problem or should I just buy something new? Don't want to play around too much here.
Got crunchin to do and everytime I make changes is time down. :disgust:
