Edison jacked up my power "called it power fluctuating"

Over the summer months, I had three CD players go dead on me. I didn't know why.

Then this month I get a bill from So Cal Edison. It was $180. My usual bill is like $40-$50 to the most after Summer. (Sept-Oct)

I called them up to complain or explain and they said that the there is a power flux is in my area and that the transformer has to be changed or something.

To Edison's credit, they did send a guy the next day to fix the problem. He said that my "voltage" was too high.

Edison has a program to repair or replace your damaged electronics in case it was something that they did - so, I have to file some claims.

If you have some recently purchased electronics and it went dead, chances are that the electricity circuits to your house needs to be checked. Call your electric company, and they are required to check it for you free. No need to pay private electrician to come out.

Nope. Even a good surge (best one would fail). I use UPS and that still sucks too. Only way is to disconnect things when you're not using it.

my brothers house / condo / appartment thing on ft. campbell KY's base had that problem.... he burned up 2 washer dryer sets... 2 vaccums.. 3 toasters and a toaster oven in 3 months

If the UPS is worth a damn it will protect your equipment. My TrippLite SMART 1400 UPS will cut off from the main line if it goes above a certain voltage level.

Agreed, there are ways to fix this other than just unplugging. Voltage regulators, both for single items or for the entire house, are available.
