The best burger I have ever had was from a place called Squeeze Inn in Sacramento.

Hell yes! I'm from Sac, and I make damn sure I head out there a couple times a year. Best cheeseburgers ever.

We have a lot of Five Guys chains around here, they're ok. If I'm in the mood for a burger I just get some double cheeseburgers from Mickey D's or Whopper Jr.'s From BK. I'm cheap, so $1/ea. has me sold.

i've lived some of my life in the midwest and the majority of my life on the west coast.
there is no doubt that in-n-out is much, much better than white castle. I could eat in-n-out till i burst. You get sick of white castle more quickly.

I've been eating sliders for years and you couldn't be more wrong.

The key here is to order the original hamburger, not the cheeseburger.

Sliders taste nothing like anything at McDonalds. I've tried most of the fast food places on the West and East coast...when it comes down to it...its all fast food. None of it is really all that great.

Obligatory:

Carl's Jr.: Fuck you! I'm eating!

EDIT: Also...Five Guys is great stuff. When I was consulting, that was my favorite part about flying out of Reagan National Airport: Five Guys in the terminal FTW!

Burger King Whopper owns you all!

For a good burger though, you need to find a good local mom n' pop restaurant. With the exception of maybe Fudruckers.

Oh, and Red Robbin is over-rated crap.

meh... at least you guys get choices like that.

we get nothing for fast food variety up in Canuckistan.

/me kicks a can and pouts off into the distance

Can't believe Whataburger and Sonic are in this list, but maybe it's because I grew up with them all around.

Five Guys is pretty good. I actually don't like the fries. I too prefer a smaller fry.

For me, it's a toss between In-N-Out and Five Guys as far as the burgers go.

I actually prefer Krystal or Checkers to White Castle. I've never enjoyed White Castle burgers.

And I have to throw in the obligatory "eat local instead" remark. In Atlanta, we have places like Ann's Snack Shack, Six Feet Under and Vortex that blow away anything possible from a chain.

Seriously, I'm not going to try to defend White Castle, but I would never say that that a slider tastes like anything from Mcd's. It casts aspersions on the OP's taste buds and veracity.

try the Shake Shack in madison square park

it's pretty good
I've had In n Out plenty of times but I like the shake shack burger better.
Not the fries though

will put both of these in queue.

One place that I really liked in Manhattan is Dallas BBQ- 11.99 for a full rack of baby back ribs or beef ribs, bread, and bake potato. excellent price, excellent food. come to think of it, a full baby back rib meal at this restaurant is cheaper than a burger meal at Five Guys (a fast food restaurant) 🙁

That's a pretty good deal for a full rack of ribs + meal.

It's a damn good deal. Half racks usually cost that much or more by themselves.

haha to say a slider is the same as a hamburger from McD's is insane. They are nothing alike.

There are Five Guys in NYC now? And Wisconsin? And Kansas City? Man they expanded fast. Does anyone know if they're as good as the real ones in northern Virginia?

White Castle is fucking terrible. In-n-out is fine, but overrated (I prefer Five Guys, at least the NoVa ones). Whataburger is better than, say, McDonalds, but nothing special. I have never been to Sonic.

They have In N Out which pretty much owns ever burger place we have out here and the bastards won't expand past the Southwest

What you need to do is visit Rocco's Pastry shop on Bleeker street (I HIGHLY recommend a Lulu or Cannoli), Then go get some pizza at Grimaldi's or Lombardi's (You can't go wrong), next get some cheesecake at Junior's (Can't go wrong here either), and then snag some cream puffs at beard papa (also on Bleeker). Hell with a burger.

Now, I like pastries and pizza and cheesecakepie, but if the man wants a burger, let him eat a tasty burger and quit hassling him!

HEY!!! DON'T YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT WHITE CASTLE!! Those little greaseball burgers are the best Goddamn drunk food you'll ever have! It's a privilege that you get to go to White Castle whenever you choose!!! I am not so lucky anymore... leaving my midwestern roots to move out West and if there is one treat I miss holy above all others, it is a Tak-home-a-sak of fresh steamed White Castles. Those shitty microwave knockoff's don't even come close!!!..... you ungreatful bastard!

Oh yeah, and before I forget... The first one who pops his head in here and says that Krystal is better than WC is gonna get his ass kicked!!!

There are just some legacies you dare not desecrate on in my presence... White Castle happens to be one of them!!!

Cheers! 😀
JR..

hey Pops...it's taco bell now a days for drunk food 😉 At least you didn't mention IHoP.

I did the opposite of the OP and went out to California for 10 days. I went to In N Out once and it's really not that great. Like microwave quality.

aww...c'mon, you and I both know that In N Out is as far from microwave quality as you can get. no need to get dramatic here. however, Five Guys and In N Out are similar enough that if you've had one, and then tried the other, you wouldn't think much of the other place. that is probably why i'm not all that excited about Five Guys despite it being a pretty good place.

i shall try all of the above! except the cheesecake cuz I'm lactose intolerant. i remember passing by all those places on my way to Five Guys.

The Five Guys Burgers I tried in Athens, GA was actually pretty good. Tasty burgers and fries for a decent enough price.

Don't go there if you have peanut allergies though. Bags of peanuts are stacked everywhere and everything is cooked in peanut oil. A friend and I stopped in there on our way to see a UGA/Bama basketball game. Immediately upon walking in I said, "I definitely won't be bringing my kids here!" (both have peanut allergies)

I've bought the frozen Whitecastle from the local Safeway supermarket here in the Bay Area and "fresh" from some Whitecastle in Virginia. Tasted the same which was just ok. I do admit it was great eating those little burgers after a few beers.

For great taste, I'll take In N Out. For drunk food I'll take Whitecastle (but prefer a good Carne Asada burrito from just about any late night mex place)
