Ed Rendell on the NFL postponing the game:

"We've become a nation of wusses. The Chinese are kicking our butt in everything," Rendell added. "If this was in China do you think the Chinese would have called off the game? People would have been marching down to the stadium, they would have walked and they would have been doing calculus on the way down."

No, Ed if this were China:

People would have not even gone since they don't play soccer in a snowstorm.

Taxes would be so high the government would have such massive surpluses they would be building the largest, most expensive infrastructure projects on Earth, and still have money to burn.

The only math they would be calculating is how far they would have to jump to miss the suicide nets.

Millions and millions of teen age boys wouldn't be playing one of the most violent and dangerous games, football, on Earth.

If this were China people would have on facemasks to keep out the pollution.

People would be walking pretty slow after putting in 12 hours at the factory.

People would have gotten to the stadium on their new high speed rail line.

People would have brought their own food, which they had grown, so they wouldn't have to eat the lead at the stadium.

People would be wondering how many more years they had left before they couldn't do manual labor and would commit suicide so as not to be a burden to their families.

And the number one answer is:

If this were China no one would be wondering if they should vote for an asshat like you again, since, well, it IS China, after all.

Ed, if you like China so much, then emigrate. I'm sure there are many fine people in Pennsylvania that would contribute towards your ticket.

First football game canceled since 1932 (and the one then was postponed just a couple of hours). I went to plenty of games in Milwaukee and Green Bay that were far, far worse conditions than Sunday was. Rendell is right about us becoming a nation of wusses (the China stuff was mostly garbage).

If they were truely concerned about public safety, have the game in an empty stadium.

Comparing Philadelphia to either of those cities is asinine. Road clearing is already atrocious in the city, are you suggesting they divert crews from various neighborhoods to clear major arteries to the stadium? Then what, people come from all over the area to see the game, what about the accidents that were bound to happen? People would have been outraged the game went on as scheduled..

A game in an empty stadium? That's a larger outrage. The thing people are missing is that this game is rescheduled to Tuesday, not Monday. Not to mention the game was flexed to be on Sunday night. It was scheduled as a 1pm game in the first place. That's greed, pure and simple.

He's right though, they wouldn't have postponed in the Midwest. Suck it up, Philly.

I'm from Minnesota and remember the '91 Halloween blizzard and many other huge snowstorms. I drove through them and walked the Washington Ave. bridge to and from the East/West bank at the UofMN for 4 years.

However, when my wife (who lived in Green Bay for years), and I drove back from JFK yesterday afternoon at 4pm, I would never have wished anybody to go to work in that weather. It took us 3 hours to go 30mi, avoiding several cars spinning out, and windshield wipers freezing in rapidly plummeting temps with wind gusts in the 50-60mph. That's on the Hutch Pkwy and I-95.

A 1-2' snowfall in the northeast is huge, a once in 20 year event. Combine that with near hurricane-force winds, thundersnow, and an area that's not used to clearing such snow, you get a deadly mix if you try to get tens of thousands of people in/out of that city during the height of the snow.

In northern MN, where my dad, brother and I used to go deer hunting, they had gates on I-94 to stop people from going on the freeway during such storms. Most times because people would drive on them, get stuck, then try to walk to farms which often appear close, but are far. Many people die like that.

To call this a "wuss" move is the epitome of recklessness and idiocy.

since when is playing a damn football game more important that the safety of 50-70 thousand people?

there is no harm in moving the game back a few days

the calculus comment is beyond stupid

Every word that issues from Ed Rendell's mouth is designed solely for his political benefit or for the benefit of his Philadelphia buddies. People thought the city of Philadelphia made the unpopular decision to postpone the game so he's trying to get the point across that Philly had nothing to do with it.

Ed's right.

Some of the most fondly remembered, and interesting games, were those played in extreme weather conditions.

The NFL broke long-standing policy/tradition here. I hope they don't do it again.

Damn, it's cold down here in Hell. I agree with you.

I lived in Chicago for 3 years, they never shut down for nothing (to my chagrin).

It's "chagrin".

They shut down plenty. There are very few towns which wouldn't shut down when getting that type of storm.

Sad to say, without a spell checker I look like a fool. Thanks. And I like to know about word origins. God, the english language sucks.

The sad fact is, we as a Nation have become wussies. I believe he is correct, although he reasoning isnt the best.

Would they have played if LF Field was under a dome?

Well we are beginning to see why it was exactly the liberty bell was cracked. The Eagles plea for a faster track backfired. There QT was constantly pounded. Late hits were not called . I thought I was watching Favre on the eagles team . LOL . If that was brady or payton 4 late hit calls would have been called Screw the crooked NFL.

By the way we had way more snow in the 1900's threw the 1960s than present times . He was right we are a nation of wussies . Won't even call out the zebras for there down right crooked calls . There were late hits in that game . And the holding penelities that were ignored that occurred in front of zebras watchful eyes . The game is tainted for all to see . yet no one is calling on congress to investagate. What ever happened to the American miafia. Nothing their running the country now. Man did the bookies make out on that game. LOL at the in plain sight!
