ECS&Sempron

I picked up an AMD Sempron 2600+ and an ECS motherboard at FRry's for $89.00 to replace a DFI-1800+ system that was starting to die. This system is only used for a 3 year old to play kids games and I have it networked with my AMD64 system so the wife can surf while I am fragging people. It seems fairly quick for a budget system, but how is the ECS motherboard? I have never used one and I took a gamble with this one.

For $89, how can you go wrong? Seriously...ECS isn't the best there is, to be sure, but it will handle everything a three year old can throw at it I'm sure. Except maybe a bowl of milk sodden cheerios.

I made several low end systems with the (infamous) K7S5A and I am happy to report ALL are still in use and very stable. These are not power users mind you and they probably wouldn't even crack a case open for fear of ruining something. You shouldn't have a problem with that setup.

ECS isn't good for power users, but they make acceptable motherboards. I have a very stable ECS K7S5A in another computer. I got it for free, and it has been just as reliable as my Asus and Abit boards.

Oviously not every mobo that ECS makes is going to die, but more of them will have problems than other manufactures. I suggest checking the fs/ft fourm for a used mobo/processor.

Very good deal. No, ECS is not the greatest in the world, but for a basic destop, I doubt there will be any problems.

I only had 1 problem with a ECs mobo. A stupid cmos low battery error pops up. I changed the battery and still does it. But I can't complain since that is the only 1 board with a problem that I have ran into out of 20-30 of their boards.

They are much much better than they used to be. I have no problems choosing them over ASUS and Epox if they are alittle cheaper on the price 🙂

Had a K7S5a that ran SETI 24/7 for 3 years till a power surge got it and never had a problem, now have a L7S7A2 doing the same. I never had any problem with install or setup, nor with stability even slightly overclocked, just dont push it more than a few % over stock. For the price it seems like a great deal.
