Digitimes.com reports that with the exception of Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), the other three Taiwanese top-tier motherboard manufacturers, Asustek Computer, Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI), will all fail to achieve their 2001 shipment targets.

Asustek thus will concede its position as the leading board maker to ECS. Given the economic slowdown, ECS?s low-price marketing strategy apparently struck the right chord with most customers.

In addition to motherboards, Asustek also missed its notebook shipment target for a second year. Seeing this, the market is now more conservative about the company?s target of shipping 1.5 million to 1.6 million notebooks in 2002.

This year, Asustek also lost its crown as the graphics card giant to MSI. Boosted by a major order from Dell Computer, MSI has shipped over four million graphics cards in 2001, greatly exceeding its originally forecast 2.6 million units.

In 2001, ECS, MSI and Gigabyte will each ship more than 10 million motherboards for the first time.

In all honesty, if there was one board/chipset that would ever appear in OEMS like Dell and Gateway, it would most likely be a ECS/SiS board. This is of no suprise though, good job ECS

ECS definitely found the sweet spot with their economy SiS motherboards. I wonder what effect this will have on the prices of the higher end mobos in 2002. Could this trigger some price cuts?

Edit:
Just an afterthought that I don't inted to start a flamewar here. I wonder how many of the slightly less than ten million boards that ECS shipped this year were the K7S5A. And, please, no comments on how 90% of them were RMA'd. Is there anyplace we can get these figures? Maybe get the figures on the top selling boards from each manufacturer? Would this be comparing apples to oranges, because obviously different boards are designed to fulfill different requirements.

If the K7S6A Can provide further stability and an assortment of O/C options, I can very easily see it as the prime choice foi a mobo in the early half of 2002

<< I wonder who would call ECS a 'first-tier' maker? It's laughable, IMVHO. It's a pity that ECS is SIS's main outlet... I think I would have bought a SIS board to play with it had it been made by someone else... >>

Well, as of now, Abit, Asus, MSI, and several others are making the 645's and they are reportedly going to begin soon on the 745's so you may have to eat those words.........;) LOL!:)

Like it or not, ECS is a first tier manufacturer. Shipping more boards than ASUS is no small feat.

Your obvious bias against both ECS and SiS probably has nothing to do with it though, right? :)

Surprised a few more haven't commented. Are you really that stunned? :D

Pretty much the whole industry would call ECS a 'first-tier' maker, they are a rather large company and have a large production capacity if they can out-ship Asus.

funny that you can't find other SiS735 boards... I know of 2 others boards that are marketed right now that you can play with: ChainTek 7SID and LeadTek 735KDA.

<< I'm not biased. I only need the truth >>

And many have been trying to give you that truth.......but alas, you are reluctant.......

<< and when somebody (it's a hint ) tries to pursue unexpirienced people buy a board/s that barely work at all, I just can't hold back. >>

You must learn to fight the urge to join those giving misleading information............

<< I can't see why some people (yet another hint ) are so very biased themselves that everybody speaks about it, and whether they have a valid reason for it. >>

It is a disease.........ah, but a CUREABLE one..........begin fighting the urge to spread the misleading information and you too may become enlightened.......

Peace Be With You My Son...........;)
