*brushes dust off the old L7VMM3 thread*

A note to those like myself stuck with the Pro2300+ spec (200FSB) - despair not. ;)

Cut the 1-2 on the "hidden" JP3 jumper, then solder 2-3 in. And if you're lucky, you get "Pro2800+" and 133FSB. :D

You can also download CPUMSR to adjust the multiplier on the fly, and then use CPUFSB to overclock. I didn't have much luck though.

Question - anyone unscrewed/popped the heatsink off one of these? I'd like to slap the Zalman back on and go back to Silence. :)

I got two of these "L7VMM3"s couple of weeks for my company. It came with a 3100A+ CPU soldered-onboard, and a stick of 256 PC2100.

One guy is complaining it takes him 2 minutes to open an office document  and he wants an additional 256 b/c he wants to upgrade to Windows XP.

I think it's b/c he pulled his hard drive out from an old machine... after he reformats I'm pretty sure the problem will lessen. Anyone have any similar experiences?

That'll not so much because the HDD is fragmented and full, but because old IDE HDDs _ARE_ freaking slow by today's standards. Give him a new one. Best bet: Samsung SP series. 3-year warranty, whisper quiet operation, and very fine speed nonetheless. The move over to a new OS is a good occasion to change drives. More RAM will also help it.

What's the "pro3100" processor actually? Do you have any CPU diagnostics program you could check out? Many thanks for enlightening us!

Enlightening?! ha, didnt know I could do that to the techno-geeks here on AT.. ;)

I surmise the guy hasn't formatted his HD in YEARS -- defragmenting might be a good start though, he probably has NEVER done that, either. In any case, I'll first get him his 256 RAM, and if need be, a new HD.

Will check out what's under the disguise of that "3100A+" using CPUZ later, unless you have some better suggestions!

Thanks

EDIT: Here is the screenshot: cpu-z.jpg

Looks like it's a Mobile XP-M 1900+ @1600MHz

Ah, It's a Thoroughbred 1600/133 MHz mobile Athlon XP 1900+, and at 1.3V it's not even a cheapo "desktop replacement", but a real good "low power" mobile CPU, the lowest power level AMD has to offer. Thanks!

hi, i'm a noob to these forums reguarding this mb, L7vmm3 i have one that i'm on now as i write out this post. and it's overclockable with a flash update the best it can go is 1.4 ghz at 116fsb x2 its a fast little rig. but could do without all the usb ports (4 + a header for more front usb slots) i'm happy with just 2 usb slots.

As I'm sure you've noticed, the BIOS overclocking options aren't worth much. With no way to adjust the PCI/AGP divider, you're pretty much stuck. You can try the jumper-cut I described above if you're feeling adventurous, but there's no guarantee it'll hold up.

Doctor M4H has your prescription right here:
Install the VIA 4-in-1s. ;)

Thanks Doc! :)

Wasn't aware that even these boards need the 4-in-1s, and if it did, wouldn't the motherboard CD install have taken care of that? I dont' remember what I installed with the accompanying CD... probably just chose "default" and let it run thru the whole thing.

Would these v4.51 be what I want?

You'd think they would have, but it wouldn't shock me if the 4-in-1's weren't installed, or were horribly outdated.

Yes, that's what you want - the 4in1 aka Hyperion driver set.

Are PC Chips bios flash updates compatible with AMI?

Anyway, the bios updates from AMI do nothing for the performance of the board at all. Mine has a 1400 XP-M and I have not been stable over 222 FSB, though I have gotten it to register as an 1500 XP-M using central brain identifier.

Finally others to talk about this setup. This thing has been rediculous to research and find anything concrete.

could anyone tell me if I can add my AGP ATI Radeon to this motherboard?

I just bought the L7VMM3 PRO3100+ yesterday..and it's been locking up non-stop. I took out the cheapo fan, and put in a nice global win/y.s. tech 25CFM in its place. A little more stable, but everytime I load the crappy S3 video card drivers, the thing locks up after a while.

Any suggestions?

but everytime I load the crappy S3 video card drivers, the thing lock

you have to uninstall the s3 video card drivers
and then reboot your system

be sure that the ati video card is correct in the agb socket

if ist does not work install your windows new an do not install
the driver form the mainboard CD `s

at first install the ati grafik card driver

The problem most probably is elsewhere. As has been recommended a gazillion times already, first thing to do with a new build is a RAM test. www.memtest.org

i modified my mb from the 100fsb to 133fsb and tested it for a day, and it's very unstable at 133fsb. so i had to resolder the little wire back to the 100fsb i'm not sure if it's the psu, as it might not be enough (300watt) or the vcore as its regulated by the mb itself. so much for doing that but i can say is that going from the default xp1200 and raising the fsb, up to 133fsb i got an xp 1600 but it wasn't worth the effort.

That's been a 33 percent overclock on the CPU ... asking too much, definitely.
