I'm struggling through putting together my first pc from scratch. Believe me, I'm a newbie. I got everything sorta working except, when I boot up, I get an error message "CMOS Memory settings wrong, and CMOS memory size wrong" (or something close). I have no idea how to change the CMOS Memory. How would i do this? Thanks and sorry for the stupidity.

Hit the DEL key during boot up, there should be a message about this that appears that the bottom of the screen. You then need to set your CPU frequency to the correct value. Get out the manual and read the section about the BIOS settings.

Thats the thing, I got the frequency right, then it boots, shows the video card works, but then immediately shuts off

You might not have the frequency correct. Make sure you set it to default at first then you can tweak on it.
If you can't get to the cmos setup screen you'll have to try clearing your cmos. Its in the mobo user guide.
All you do is move the jumper into the clear setting for a few ( they say a few seconds I just do a minute or so).
Make sure the power is unpluged before you start. And that should do it. Then go in and reset the settings and your off.:)

There's an official K7S5A thread going here too that more people may be looking at who can help

To clear the CMOS, move jumper4 to the 2&3 pins, Pin1's location is shown on page12 of the manual. Though a newer version like yours shouldn't have the problem some K7S5A's were shipped with the jumper in the wrong position which caused the settings not to take. Also, go in to the bios to hardware monitor and look at the vbat reading, it should be 3.4+volts, if it's lower then you need a new battery. If the vbat reading is O.K. and clearing the CMOS as magneto125 suggested dosen't resolve the problem, list your sytem specs E.G. power supply wattage and brand, CPU, RAM type and brand, ect.
Also, read the ECS K7S5A FAQ 2.0 INDEX it's the best guide around for anyone who owns this board.

DAPUNISHER:

Thanks for giving the info about the vbat reading in the hardware monitor. I didn't know you could check your battery level this way.

I had been wondering about mine since I built it because it was set to clear the CMOS from the factory and I got a low battery warning on the first boot-up. I just checked mine and it reads 3.472, so I guess that means I am good to go! It is nice that you can check the CPU temperature and fan speeds from there also.

I have to say I really like this board considering the price. Other than a few minor problems with boot sequence when setting up the hard drive, it has booted up flawlessly for about a month now, and no problems whatsoever. Who would have thought a year ago that you could build such a fast machine for so little money!
