Yeah, they sell those exactly the same price as the new ones. So for the people who wishes Fry's would come to your town, be careful what you wish for.

Bullsh!t alert!!!!!!!!!! My dad just called me from Fry's and said the ad was a mistake and was for the motherboard and a XP +2000 OEM.
They wouldn't give him the retail CPU. Man this is bullshit. I am going to call them right now and give them an earfull!!!!!!!!!!

Fry's certainly make lots of mistakes in their ads... the best you can do is report them to your Attorney General and hopefully soon enough they'll clean up their act... all these price mistakes are simply their so-called legit way for doing bait-n-switch...

I bet most(if not all) of the ECS board in this bundle are returned.
I wanted to jump on the 1800+ and ECS bundel deal last week. But all the boards are returned stuff.

Personally, I've returned 2 ECS boards to Fry's recently.

The ads I saw were $119 for a bundle with a retail CPU and $99 for an OEM. Where's the bullsh!t? Where did you see the ad for $99 and a retail CPU?

i've always looked for motherboards that dont have the return/refurb sticker..

however not all motherboards are refurbished. like one time i returned a motherboard and I didnt even open it. they still opened it up and then they slapped on the return/refurb sticker.

there is a risk involved... fry's do have the best deals on mobo/cpu combo deals... however its a b*tch to troubleshoot motherboards so i never buy ones with the return/refurb sticker

Just to add to what Badboyeee was talking about. I was told by one of their employees that they have to test "everything" that comes through on return. So, even if you return a MOBO or CPU without even opening the darn thing they will, on return, open it, install it on a computer and test it out. Fry's employees are aware that most people avoid the dreaded return/refurb sticker like the plague and will help you find one without it.

BTW, I had the 1800+ combo but decided to get the Pentium 4 2.5Ghz / ECS P4VXASD2+ combo instead for $199.

THis deal is back on in SoCal - $99 for ECS K7S5A and XP 2000+ OEM. Should be good for a couple more days (don't have LA Times ad in front of me).
I picked up a non-return ECS w/ cpu at Woodland Hills Fry's - lots of non-return and return boxes left on the shelves.

geez, why do you care if it has a sticker on it. If its looks new and smells new, chances are it will behave like new.. if not -- just return it :)

Personally I will wait till after Xmas sale for their combo deals.....

thats what you think. i went through two returned k7s5a boards that were both defective...wasted my time troubleshooting a new system and my gas driving back and forth to fry's. not until i decided to return everything did they say 'if we make sure it works before you walk out the door will you keep the stuff?'. that's when i got a new board from them.

i have bought the ecs and celeron 1.7 and the msi and celeron 2.0 the past 2 days. bunch of people were buying the ecs and xp2000 today but they had plenty at the socal manhattan beach store.

my ECS celeron combo had a used 1.7 and new board, and the MSI and celeron 2.0 both were used. the msi board wasnt opened inside though, and well all the parts work fine. the 2.0 even did 2667 easily at 1.65 volts (didnt try anything else)
