Hi all,

I'm trying to get an ECS K7S5A motherboard configured to work under WinXP which shouldn't normally be a problem.

I can't get the on-board sound to work for some reason, I even d/l'ed the driver update from www.ecsusa.com but it still won't work.

The device manager says that it's working correctly, so I'm really stumped!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I think there are a couple different possiable drivers depending on the board. If you open your case and look inside next to the sound ports you will see which chip to get drivers for. Also make sure you have your onboard sound set right in your bios.

the speakers MUST be amplified (the type you plug into the wall also) If they are not you will hear nada! Also check all of the obvious like volume controlls on the speakers and software

Hi Will,

Thanks for the advice. The BIOS settings turned out to be OK (I didn't know it could be toggled there though, thanks!) but the driver I was using was wrong.

I was using the proper on-board sound driver listed for the ECS K7S5A directly from ECS's site, but it turns out that I needed to use the SiS driver (for PCI soundcards!), even though my board actually has an NEC chipset. Talk about weird.

Anyway, now the thing works great, thanks for the help.
