***ECS K7S5A/Geforce 3 **Windows XP will not shutdown after I installed a new video card

Hi all ,

I just installed a Geforce 3 . I upgraded from my older Geforce 256. now my PC hangs/locks when it get to "shuting down the computer"

I think i hear the hard drives shut down, but then its stuck. I tryed everything I can think of. I evan reformated. It worked for a few hours but it will not shutdown again.

I will not put my old Gf 256 back in 🙁

Are you running XP? If so, there's an nVidia service that gives some people problems with shutdown/logoff. It's the only nVidia one in services. You can just disable it with no harm.
 
yes i have XP pro. DO you mean disable it in Administrative Tools/Services "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service"


I disabled that and still no luck. Is there something else I missed?

tanks, I guess it would be worse. Everything else is fine, its 100% stable except it will not shutdown. I have to hold the power button.

yep tryed that too, I have the latest Nvidia drivers, the ones on there website.


Its so silly. everything works but shutdowns
 
Disable the NIC, see if it solve your problem.
If so, you might have to move around your other pci device.
 
its a onboard Nic but ill try it

I know, that's why I said you might have to move OTHER pci around.
I had similar problem w/ my 3Com having problem w/ my firewire card that cause my system not able to shut down.

Also have you tried your window update?
 
Hmmm. Try removing all dirvers and set to Standard PCI display. When you reboot DO NOT reinstall drivers. Instead run Regcleaner (I can send it to you) and clean out ALL traces of old drivers left behind. Then reinstall.

question, How to I set to "Standard PCI display" I dont see that anywhere. Yes please send reg clean here
