ECS K7S5A + Duron 950 $79 @ SAC Fry's HOT!!

<< Another week, another $10 cheaper. How low can they go. >>

At least another $10. The combo is $69 at BA Fry's.

Those Bay Area Fry's are just a local pricing distortion. They're intended to give those folks a break since everything else costs so much there. It's only fair. 🙂

I bought this same combo at Fry's back in December when it was $99. Fry's credited me $10 when the price dropped to $89 within their price guarantee window. So watch for price drops after you buy.

I built my first PC ($330 including monitor and CD-RW drive) using this combo and it works great. Just be aware that there is a potential for a "crackling" sound problem if you pair it with a PCI graphics card as I did. The easy solution is to buy an AGP graphics card. Others have eliminated the crackling by using a different BIOS but I haven't tried that yet.

I just scored that combo a couple weeks ago from Sac. Fry's for $79.

I had an earlier revision of that motherboard, which is a great board, but had a few minor glitches. The new board I picked up had NO ISSUES AT ALL. Terrific motherboard, just make sure you rifle through the stack to make sure you're not getting a returned one!!!😉

I totally agree with that! My local Fry's in Burbank has a tendency to put all the returned K7S5As up front. Just watch out for the "returned item" sticker. Sure, the returns may be just fine but you might as well get an untouched one if you have the option.

AS far as I'm concerned, the only way an ECS board is hot, is if it just came out of the microwave. Do yourself a favour and buy a real board.

Dewwwd, Im using the ECS board with my AthlonXP 1700+ and it is by far the stablest board Ive ever dealt with. I wont buy VIA chipset boards anymore after they KT133a problems, SIS chipsets on other hand are a great stable performer at great prices...

Remember, the nice thing about frys is that you can exchange or return everything within 30 days, no questions asked. So if you are one of the few unlucky ones with a bad batch of boards(very early batch) just return it to frys and get another one.

Oh, yeah, another hint: dont get anything at Frys that has "returned" sticker....

I had k7s5a's stop at 6 and 8 wks.
but at this price, I am tempted to try em again.
Sure do wish I had a Fry's nearby

Don't plan on receiving it any time soon. My friend ordered it two weeks ago, and has gotten everything but the processor. They ship it all seperately. I hate Outpost. They did the same thing to me when it came to backorders. I ordered a video card for $10 more than other places because they said they had it in stock. Guess what! Backordered 1-2wks like everyone else, and it cost me an extra $10.

For those of us who bought it at outpost.com for $99, can someone scan a copy of the fry's ad so we can price match it to AMEX blue?

Thank you so much.

Don't forget about the 80GB Seagate Barracuda IV UDMA/100 Hard Drive for $89 after a $50 rebate.

I just left the store about an hour ago, tempted towards the dark side I was.🙂

lol just filled out their contact form on the fry's website, hoping to convince them to open up shop in new york city hehe...

BUT they told me my last name had to be 3 letters long! DISCRIMINATION!

LOL

Actually, with motherboards, ram, cpu's and other items, it's only 15 days. Be aware! Test everything out immediately, cause if something doesn't work, you don't have much time to return it.

I just bought 4 of these. Was only suppose to be one per customer in oregon.... These make great starter kits... Better then the 109 Soyo deal a while back. These come with built in LAN, Sound, USB & AGP port. I've already got one up and working! Pretty stable under XP.

This is by far one of the best deals around. Good for family and friends who need a cheap good system. This even excepts DDR ram.

Good Luck to all who get in on this. Although you can get almost the same deal at new egg but when you add in the shipping it about 110 bucks.

New Egg 1 Gig is like 48 bucks... and the same mother board frys sells is 52 and probably around 10 bucks shipping.

Altho, I don't think you'll see any real performance gain from 950 to 1 gig.

Some review's...

Don't plan to over clock and so far I have to agree with them. It's a solid board.

Anyone hoping to pricematch w/Blue is outta luck. Fry's wouldn't take my amex blue card when I bought the combo, so I'm sure amex won't recognize them as a vendor.
