ECS K7S5A DDR Memory problems

OK, I have tried everything else, cant get a response from ECS, had the mobo replaced and it still didnt work...

I have an ECS K7S5A. Whenever I put in DDR memory, I get errors all over the place. It boots fine, but as soon as I try to do anything intensive with it, it dumps and reboots itself after a few minutes. Typically, when it reboots, I get bad system config errors, that go away after another reboot. The board works fine with PC133 memory. I had the board replaced, thinking it was a localized problem. Guess what? ECS has not returned any emails, and they do not have a support phone number (go figure). I have tried other sticks of DDR (this is a Kingston) and have tried them in the other DDR slot, and it still did not work. This is completely ridiculous. I even tried another PSU, thinking that that could have something to do with it. No luck. I did not see anywhere in the Bios to change the mem type. Any ideas? So far I am out the $75 for my memory and have had to cannibalize another machine to get this one to run. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums! :)

I'm not sure what the problem is, but the best source for help with the ECS K7S5A is the OCWorkbench forums

BTW, many people including myself run the k7s5a successfully, so unless you're extremely unlucky, the chances of getting 2 bad boards is very small. Try reseating everything, maybe you have a bad contact somewhere

try sticking it in the other slot - also, i've noticed that SIS chipsets have a tendency to be picky when trying to run ULTRA timings...so knock it down to FAST
they generally run fine at aggressive CAS latencies, it's just the other timings (RAS, etc.)

I agree...go to normal or safe settings...and make sure any time you install windows you don't tweak the memory...leave it at normal or safe until OS is installed and verified working....

What rev is the board? What cpu and power supply ar e you running??

ECS's were picky with ram...Have you got access to any crucial ddr??? I built 5 systems and never had problems with crucial memory. Go to ocworkbench and see if someone has put together a list of compatable memory...

Don't mean to ask what might sound like an insulting question, but you aren't trying to run the DDR RAM with the SDRAM at the same time, are you?
