Hi. I have a SOcket 370 P3 550Mhz here and want to buy a cheap and stable motherboard for it. It will not be used for game sor anything, just a backup system and general work horse, anyone have any suggestions?

K7S5A with a 1.4GHz Thunderbird and 512MB Crucial PC2100. Should be in the $250 range. You can't buy more performance right now for anything close to that figure.

Agreed It's hard to go wrong with that combination. There is no PIII or PIV that can even touch that price/performance ratio.

It looks like both of you answered the wrong thread.

The question was to the effect: "I have a socket 370 P3 550Mhz. What is a good motherboard for this cpu?"

Since performance is not an issue, and cost probably is, an integrated I/O MB might be a good choice, some even in the ~$50 range. Any experts have a suggestion which of these might be a best pick?

The best one I could see was an Abit ZM6. I don't think it has anything integrated, but it can still be found (a big plus). You could probably get an i815 or VIA chipset mobo cheaper, but I think the 440ZX chipset is better then anything other then the 440BX chipset (for stability and speed). Otherwise, perhaps a Tyan Tomcat based on the i815e. Don't know anything about the performance or stability, but it's cheap and has integrated video. Otherwise, I suggest hitting pricewatch and looking for VIA or i815 based socket 370 boards, then research them to see what you think will work. Otherwise, maybe someone more knowledgeable will post in here. I kinda skipped socket 370 myself ;)

i recommend the Asus CUSL2-C. Its a very stable board, but $100. Do you plan on using a sound and video card?

Well, I have the CUSL2, for my P3 1GHz. I agree, an excellent board, except I need something a bit cheaper. Integrated Sound/Video would be nice, but not essential.
