Kingofcomputer what's the best(least amount ,if none even better 🙂, issues) AMD processor(XP/Duron)-based mobo at the moment?

That motherboard has been around at that price for a while. Not bashing the motherboard I own one and it is very nice but that price in no way warrents a hot deal.

newegg.com has it for the same price. Shipping is $8 at newegg.

aww... you beat me to it
just snagged it from newegg myself 😉

I just bought this same motherboard with a Duron 950 bundled for $69 from Fry's yesterday (In fact, I'm using this system right now!). Fry's has great bundle deals, if you're interested

That's a great board. I got mine from newegg and it's been on for a couple of days now. Now, someone find a great deal on some DDR memory, so I can boost its performance a bit....

😎

WARNING... unless Outpost.com has suddenly gotten a conscience you cannot return a bad motherboard to them.. and ECS does not allow you to return one to them.. so.. good luck.

NO RMA at outpost
NO RMA at ECS...

RMA available at NEWEGG hate em all you want at least I've been able to return 4 motherboards to them 😀

I don't know, I've gotten 2 of these boards and I've gotten both of them to work, but as much as people rave about their stability, I really haven't seen it. I can't complain about any major problems, but lots of little network and soundcard problems, probably because mine came with the onboard lan and sound. If you read the newsgroups there's also certain revs that had many more problems then others. I was one fo the people who had to replace the bios battery since it was shipped low on energy. For the price it definitely blows the competition away(esp. since there really isn't at this price), but if you're going to get a suped up Athlon XP, DDR ram and a nice video card, in my opinion it's just not worth it to skimp on the mobo. I ended up replacing one of the mobo's with the new Shuttle KT266a mobo and I noticed a difference in speed and just overall stability.

I think for budget systems, these are great but if you're building a performance or gaming system my semi-worthless opinion is to just spend an extra $60 and get a quality mobo.

[edit] I didn't mean to thread crap in any way. I'm not saying this isn't a deal, just not one that everyone might want to take advantage of. I would recommend this board to people who are looking for a budget system for sure. It's the only thing that makes a 200-300 system reasonable, which is great, but you also get what you pay for[/edit]

Just finished with my third computer based on this board. Solid deal especially with the onboard LAN and audio. For that low of a price, you can't complain!

i have this board and duron1gig combo from Fry's.
seems very fast and can take both sdram or ddr
Using onboard lan but disabled sound...i have sblive.

onboard sound is pc97 crap...lan is very decent sis.
be ready to tweak this board coz its not exactly a plug-n-go system...
if ur a non-tweaker or u are semi-newb...be wary.
yes, buy from Newegg. You can return stuff to them rather easily and they even
pay for return s/h!

I jumped on the Fry's deal of the K7S5A and Duron 1.2 for $109... happy with it so far.. have it sitting at 1320 (146.65x9) can't go any higher due to my power supply i think.. only a 250W'er. Only thing you need to worry about on this board is if you run a 133+ bus you should take off the hs on the chipset and put some AS on there as theres only double sided tape on there. Get the latest bios and agp drivers and you should be good to go.. not really any overclocking features but theres some user support through some progs to get higher bus speeds such as i have.

Which do you think is better, the K7S5A or the A7M266?

Last week I bought an "AS IS - No warranty" A7M266 from tcwo. The board was brand new. It's very fast and very stable, but I've never used the K7S5A and many love that board.

Any one here had a chance to compare the two?
