ECS 755 Mobo good???

I am looking to get an AMD 64 2800+ processor with a motherboard....until now, I was set on getting the Chaintech VNF-3 250...however, the ECS combo is running $25 cheaper.

Of course I want to save a buck or two whenever I can, however, if the ECS is bad, I would rather spend the extra $25 on Chaintech.

I have read some of the things about ECS' other boards, and seems like people haven't really said any big negatives...just want to confirm that.

Btw, I will not be OCing.

The ECS 755-A2 is a solid board, and quite a good performer actually. No bells, no whistles, just the basics - that's why it's so cheap. The even cheaper 755-A however cannot run the memory at 200 MHz DDR (PC3200 standard). So if you're not recycling a slow DIMM anyhow, you should make sure it's the A2 revision.

btw, I just looked ... Fry's have a bundle deal right now, 3200+ with what looks like exactly this board for 249.99. Just make sure it's the A2 - they're not telling.

Recycling memory?? I was told my memory won't work with any new mobos....is that not accurate??

I have a P3 computer..don't know what type of memory it is..kinda hard to tell by just looking at it. Will that work??

About a month ago I bought a combo from frys and the board I got was an A2. It was very solid but didn't give me the OC's I needed.

So you had rather bought a more expensive board and a slower CPU for the same total money? So you can overclock to the speed you could have bought straight away? Makes sense!

WildViper, if you have a P3 there, it is somewhat unlikely but remotely possible it uses DDR memory. If so, yes you can stick it into an Athlon-64 board even if it's PC1600 or PC2100 RAM. You don't have to have PC3200 - and the performance impact isn't as bad as it looks from the numbers.

Chances are that your P3 uses SDR memory, PC100 or PC133 standard. These go into retirement please.
