There are so many layoffs going on everywhere it;s hard to keep up.

But don't forget "The economy is strong".

There are sectors that are strong and some that are weak.

The weak need to be shaken out and become lean and mean.

Trim the fat ouit of the economy

Funny how tunes and things change here.

Not long ago when Republicans were in charge and I said companies that can't afford to pay up and/or take care of employess right don't deserve to be in business I got chastised.

Now you guys are calling for their demise.

Why the turnabout?

I agree with that in concept, but it is still a ton of lost jobs. These people need to be able to work somewhere and it is not like it is the blue collar worker's fault that businesses fail most of the time. The "fat" as you put it is not really harming the econ so much right now. The problem is that people are not buying and a big part of that reason is the lack of jobs and job security.

There are only to choices.

Bring the jobs back home or ship the people to countries where the jobs went.

How come instead of mellowing out after an Obama victory you're all "GTFO...REVOLUTION...FU GOP" Dave? You got everything you wanted (even though you voted for McCain). Get fired again or something?

I can't speak for Dave, but I voted for Obama but wasn't particularly enthusiastic about him. I doubt that he'll do much to address the nation's real economic issues. Instead I expect lots of touchy-feely BS like money for college education (for non-existent job positions) and crap like that in addition to amnesty for illegal aliens. (Got tens of millions of impoverished people in your country? Solution--import more poor people!)

I'm hoping that I can reserve my right to bitch about the President while keeping a straight face. I mean, it's not like we had a lot of choice here; neither of the two candidates was an Americans' First type of candidate.

The problem is you guys didn't elect me.

You know that's the only way to fix the country.

I can't keep track of all the job losses but here comes the start of what folks in here said would not happen.

11-14-2008 Man who lost job at Santa Clara startup killed 3, including CEO and another top executive

A recently laid-off tech employee Friday opened fire inside the Santa Clara office where he used to work, police said, killing three people, including the CEO and another top executive ? and sparking a massive dragnet throughout the Bay Area.

Wu, in some news reports, was said to have a wife and two children. He is described as 5-foot-11 and weighing 170 pounds, with black eyes and black hair. The Mercury Mariner he is believed to be driving has a license plate of 6CJU602.

People who encounter Wu are urged to keep their distance and call Santa Clara police immediately at (408) 615-4700. If Wu is in another city, witnesses should call 911 to reach that city's police department.

This is close to where I work. Lots of people getting laid off in the Valley :(
It's pretty disruptive, especially for H1B visa workers whose immigration status is job dependent.

Pretty sick people that would think it is "jollies".

What is it then when this story is about a guy being fired due to performance and nothing about the economy which this thread is supposed to be about?

Another brain fart?

You are the sick one who's life has meaning only in the relaying of others' misfortunes. You must be a tremendously depressing person to be around. If you complain and bitch this much in real life, it's no wonder you cannot hold down a job.

First articles saying the Economy is officially in Recession (with one holdout) and has been since 4th quater 2007/1st quarter 2008.

Of course the resident Republicans will say it's all the Demovrats and Obama's fault just as Rush and Hannity have been saying:

11-17-2008 U.S. in recession

The U.S. economy is in recession and will contract at a faster pace in the fourth quarter, extending the decline into early 2009 as high unemployment crimps consumer spending, a survey showed.

ECONOMY IN RECESSION

About 96 percent of the NABE forecasters believed that the world's economic power house was already in recession. Half of them estimated the downturn started in the fourth quarter of 2007 or in the first quarter of 2008.

More than a third reckoned the recession began in the third quarter of 2008, and nearly three-quarters believed it could persist beyond the first quarter of 2009.

11-17-2008 Forecasters: U.S. in 14 month recession

The U.S. economy fell into a recession last spring and will contract sharply this quarter as more than 200,000 workers per month are added to the rolls of the unemployed, a survey said on Monday.

Japan on Monday joined the euro zone in recession.

Although the U.S. economy contracted in third quarter, that followed two consecutive quarters of growth, albeit helped by government stimulus payments.

The arbiter of U.S. business cycles has not yet declared the economy in recession.

The Philadelphia Fed's survey predicted gross domestic product would shrink by 2.9 percent in the fourth quarter, a sharp downgrade from the previous prediction of 0.7 percent growth.

It said the U.S. economy entered a recession in April and that it will last 14 months, which would make it one of the longest recessions since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Only the 16-month recessions in the mid-1970s and early 1980s were longer. Even though the economy was technically growing in April this year it would not be unprecedented for the National Bureau of Economic Research to declare a recession was occurring then.

The NBER measures recessions by "a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy," rather than the traditional definition of two consecutive quarters of falling

Thats too bad. LEGAL immigrants are yummy....much nicer to look at than the typical American bovine known as a woman. Generally speaking of course.

Wow we are in a recession. Now what?

Has any economy ever not gone: up, down, up, down, up, down.....? I'd love to see one that only goes up.
