Economic Stimulus Tax Relief

My wife and I got our economic stimulus payment earlier this month. It went directly toward our recent vacation in Italy/Switzerland. The money it displaced stayed in my savings account. I'm pretty sure this is not what they wanted us to be doing with the stimulus package.

With all the high debt and people worried about the economy these days...did anyone really use their stimulus package the way they were hoping it would be used?

There are already a zillion stimulus threads including "What are you going to do with it, w/ poll": Economic Stimulus / Tax Rebate checks coming early. Will you use it for bills or merchandise or savings ? (POLL)

That there Aruba must be a suburb of the Pennsylvania Dutch.

btw - the way I've been spending money lately I think I've done my part.

Your question/poll assumes that we've all received our "stimulus" checks. As of today I have not. I informally polled 4 people in my office and only one (1) had received theirs by Thursday of last week. Their SS# ended in 2XXX. Mine ends in 9XXX. i think I'll be waiting a while more ...

I got mine last week and I end in 9xxx.

It was direct-deposited into my bank account. It'll get used just like all the rest does - for bills and expenses.

It's not real money anyway.
I still can't believe that it actually went anywhere. Back when I heard about the plan to just give everyone free money, I thought it was some nutjob politician, and that it'd just go away. Sadly, we have a lot of nutjob politicians.

The Futurama episode "Three-hundred Bigboys" comes to mind, when President Nixon sent everyone $300 from the "silk surplus."

Conjure money out of nowhere and pray that it will magically boost the economy. It's the economic equivalent of a perpetual motion machine.
If that's all it took to boost the economy, why not just give everyone $100,000 instead? If $300-$1200 will boost it a little, why not boost it a lot? It's not like massive inflation is a bad thing.

Actually I put "(or plan to use)" in the question...so I covered my butt like George Bush at a gay disco.

I think it's based on the last 2 digits.

I also heard there was some big screw-up with direct deposit, so tons of people are going to have to wait to get a paper check mailed to them.

I still haven't gotten mine yet. I am going to CA in a month for a vacation, and it will all go to that.

It is the last 2 digits only. Correct.

And they messed up my direct deposit so I had to get a paper check.

Took a while.
