looking to design an ecommece website with database backend, can anyone recommend what software can be used to do this, it needs to be easy as possible as i am not a website savy. prefer not to use php if at all possible.

You will absolutely need some other server side scripting for database interactions, whether it's php or some other server-side scripting language.

If you are planning anything major at all, it it a good idea to hire someone who knows the in and outs of implementing an e-commerce website. Repeat after me: Building e-commerce websites are not for newbies!

I second what screw3d said...you will need some type of service-side language or use a third-party service, and if you're not Web site savvy, then I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself. You can interface with Paypal fairly easily, but I'm not sure that you'll be able to use it with a back-end database solution.
