1.7 planets for me, and I think I live pretty darn well. :)

super hippy

Nope, just smart. :p

I teach at a school I can walk to... a choice I made because I didn't want to sit in traffic for hours on end. When I first started teaching, I spent 8 hours a week driving to work! Not worth it.

My husband is an efficiency freak (electrical engineering did that to him) and made our house very energy efficient.

And because I don't want my family to be fat and unhealthy, we don't eat a lot of meat or processed foods. I shop for fresh, local goods as much as possible.

One of the nice side effects is that even though I'm closer to 40 than to 30, most people are suprised to find out that I am over thirty at all. Not a bad trade off for being environmentally thoughtful!

you're a chick? :Q

:camera:s

LOL, yes I am. And the mother of 3.

Me on my 37th birthday a few months ago, no makeup on, after partying all day on a catamaran in St Kitts (I'm the brunette).

And I don't care if anyone would hit it (or my sister, the blonde) or not! :p

Would it offend you if I said I think you're a hottie? Not trying to hit on you...I'm happily married with a child myself. Just a compliment. ;)

<--I'm 38 BTW...

Sadly, only 5.7 planets.

How do they define 'need'???

I mean is that, if everyone lived like you, we would use 5.7x the energy we use today (which means that 'need 5.7 planets' is very silly)
If it's the estimated capacity of the planet...how are they choosing the maximum energy output of the planet??

not just energy but resources...............

Resources ~ Energy

Yes but what I meant was think of the material in and needed to make what you own/ consume............

...okay. But that still doesn't address my question. How do they define 'planet'?

Hot!

but on the topic, I thought that it was funny at the end of that 30 days show the folks were still using 1.9 planets. I couldn't think of how they could save any bit more. How is ANYONE using just 1 planet?

I then decided that the eco site must be a sham.

Edit: and you're hotter than your sister

Think of it as getting better, not older (even if you are beginning to have chronic back problems, graying hair, etc etc!) ;)

my needs have changed since i now drive a car to work. before i needed 3.3 planets, but lookie here!

CATEGORY ACRES
FOOD 5.2
MOBILITY 4.7
SHELTER 4
GOODS/SERVICES 7.9
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 22

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 24 ACRES PER PERSON.

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 4.5 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE ACRES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 4.9 PLANETS.

planet = the amount of resources available

Thank you, too, zanix. Nice to know that us senior citizens still got it, lol...

And about the site... Yes, you are right... it is probably designed that way to begin with, to be more dramatic.

But I can honestly tell you that reducing your stress levels by driving less and eating fresher foods are not only good for the environment, it is much better for your physical and mental health.

When I had to spend 90 minutes a day driving to work and back, I was miserable!!!! I love, love, love working close to home.

Okay, well, how do they define 'resources available' there are certian 'resources' that we have no use for today, but might be cruial tomorrow. Unless they are defining things strictly in terms of food and oxygen, which is possible. Nevertheless, you get my point. Their methods are...questionable.

Well take the food alone. It takes ~3+ acres of of agricultural land to feed a person a non vegetarian diet. There are ~7.6 billion acres of arable land on Earth. We almost have that many people...........

Oh, and don't get me wrong, the site may be what it is... but I agree with you.

There seems to be alot of parallels between taking care of yourself, taking care of our environment, and feeling good. For example, bonging a bottle of $1.50 wine and swimming across a polluted lake to jump off a small cliff will make you feel terrible the next day in a puddle of puke in a room you don't regognize with all kinds of bangs on ya. You know, you gotta do the opposite of that! Eat some vegatables for the love of god. Our bodies can't adapt to chemicals so quickly. We gotta limit our exposure to them with reguard to food/food additives. Get that stuff clean. If there's not enough room to grow all the food? We better get our a$$s over to Mars!! Haha!! You know what I mean?!11

Eh... anyway...
