Eco-terrorists destroying local businesses in London

These Greenpeace ecofags are "shutting down" petrol stations in London. this is a developing story.

Greenpeace UK is claiming it has forced the closure of up to 50 BP petrol stations around London.

Teams of activists - travelling in hybrid vans - have put up signs saying, "Closed, moving beyond petroleum", and used formerly secret shut-off switches to stop the flow of petrol at each location.

BP's slogan is "Beyond petroleum".

Updates on which stations have been shut down is available at Greenpeace's website.

"We intend to stay all day," Greenpeace's John Sauven told Sky News. "This isn't targeted at motorists, this is targeted at the company to get the company to rethink their strategy."

The activists flipped safety switches that cut off the flow of oil, and closed gates at stations where they could.

"Under Tony Hayward the company went backwards, squeezing the last drops of oil from places like the Gulf of Mexico, the tar sands of Canada and even the fragile Arctic wilderness," says Mr Sauven.

"We've shut down all of BP's stations in London to give the new boss a chance to come up with a better plan. They're desperate for us to believe they're going 'beyond petroleum'. Well now's the time to prove it."

A BP spokesman described the stunt as "irresponsible and childish".

No arrests are known to have been made at this stage.

Under-fire CEO Tony Hayward will step down from October 1. BP says he has not been fired, and that the decision for him to join the company's Russian operations is by "mutual agreement".

Robert Dudley will be the first American to helm BP when he takes over.

Whether you agree with their message or not, if people of greenpeace are doing this and the org is condoning it, why isn't the goup sued/dismantled?

Super secret switches? Is that the huge red button, that says "Press in case of emergency"?

Edit:
And "destroying businesses"? A bit of hyperbole there, no?

Sue the ever living hell out of the organization. Shutting down their income stream is the last thing anyone should be doing to BP (As the last thing we want is for BP to default on their payouts and cleanup costs, which they might have to do without greenfreaks.)

If gas stations in the UK are anything like gas stations in the US, it's not really hurting BP so much as a small business owner with very thin profit margins.

Doesn't sound to me like they're doing a thing. Raise the fuckin' gate, and turn the pumps back on. That's barely worth a news article in a local rag, much less the web.
