Eclipse + Vista = Nightmare

At my new job they gave me a new HP Pavilion laptop which has Vista on it. My first experience with the new OS.

I install Java JDK 1.5, Eclipse 3.2, MyEclipse 5.1.1 and Tomcat 6.0

Development in this environment is a nightmare. It is sluggish and crashes at least 3 times a day- alot more if I am trying to step through code.

Sorry I just had to vent I have alot of frustration built up because of this.

I don't know whether to be mad at Eclipse, Vista, or what.

Can't help you, but I absolutely hate doing development in Windows.

the latest java is 6, have you tried that? and what about java and a text editor? perhaps there is a new version of eclipse out or around the corner

yeah taking a glance on the eclipse forums there is alot of buzzing around with fixing bugs. I'm sure it will be stable again soon enough but man I'm taking a beating

I'm slowly switching from XP to Ubuntu linux for developing at work. Because all the eclipse plug-ins work in linux as well as windows, there really is no reason for me to be using windows. So far I love it.
