Cool! Thanks.

Guess it wasn't a thrown timing belt. It threw a rod..

LMFAO!

OMFG!

The video of the aftermath is much more entertaining than the first video, IMO! Look at that rod and piston! :Q Insane.

Actually it was a GSX so it was AWD.

:D

That's what's going to happen to our lawnmower one of these days. The poor little Briggs and Stratton 3.5HP is worn out and doesen't develop any power at the normal "high" speed of 2900rpm, so I shortened the govenor spring and it cruises along at 3700RPM when mowing the lawn. :p And even then it will die when you go too fast into a large patch of grass.

I just hope it doesen't throw the rod at me, projectile-like. :Q That would kinda suck.

LMAO!

Would be just my luck. :p

As long as it doesen't put a hole in the crankcase, which it most likely will, I have a spare rod I'll throw in it for another season or so of (ab)use. ;)

I'm already running 20W-50 in it, cause the rod knock is quite noticable with 30weight.. heh.

It's kinda almost a game. See if we can notch the abuse up a tad while still having it last the mowing season. I estimate 2 mows/month for the next 6 months. That's about 10 hours of operation... lol.

I never thought I'd hear about riced up lawnmowers.

Heh, I bet he already had the beginnings of dreaded crankwalk and just pushed it too far. I've seen people on stock blocks last a long time making big power. But, definitely a good excuse to get a built bottomend. :D

Properly set up a DSM AWD and it will ROCK on a road course. Dennis Grant was the SCCA Street Modified Solo 2 champ this year (on points) even though he choked at Nationals. And if it was a FWD DSM... the M3 might have gotten a jump on the start but since a FWD is even lighter it would have pulled the E46 like it was standing still once it got traction.

The GSX driver knows his stuff (if you read his posts)... too bad it didn't hold out for him.

did all that twisted metal fly out of the engine, or did he take it out himself?:Q

He took it out himself.

The noise you hear in the first video is pieces of metal being blown against his firewall.

I respectfully disagree. I've driven both a DSM, an low-12 second car, and an E46 M3.

The M3 is not as slow as this video makes it out to be. He gave up or something.
