ECCP speed issues. Please help!

I just started using ECCP (109) a little while ago and joined team anandtech immediately after sending my first point.
I have two systems crunching numbers for the team:
Athlon XP 1700+ K7s5a PC133
P4 2.26B DDR400
The odd thing is that the P4 is doing an avg of 369,291 while the XP with PC133 is doing around 850,000.
Why is the XP almost three times faster? Is there something that I'm doing wrong with the P4?
Any help would be appreciated. If I can't get the speed on this P4 up I might just as well give it to a disributed computing project that takes advantage of its power and leave the XP to this one.

This is normal the P4 is bad at Eccp and RC5. It is good at all the other projects though. You should switch to the enhanced clients offered at Meremortals website. Your 1700 should get a little over a million with the enhanced client. There is an enhanced client for P4 also but the performance is still poor. EDIT The link at MM`s site is broken. Try the Jan 12 clients here Link You might try swapping cycles with someone. They run Eccp for you and you run Seti for them. Wellcome to the team.

FlorianRed if you are interested, i have an XP 1800+ DDR ram, i would be willing to trade for your P4 running seti for me.
PM me if your are interested 😛

I would also suggest this. I traded my P4 1.8A to CADkindaGUY for his Tbird 1.5xx (oc'd) simply because the P4's suck at ECCp - even with the P4 optimized client.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to check out that optimized one. I don't think I'd be interested in trading system time with anyone as I have no set ammount of time that the system will run distributed computing. Thanks for the offers though.

Which link is that? I've tried all of them on the clients page, and they all seem to work for me. But if other people are having a problem, well then that's a problem.

I have installed the XP version and the appropriate DLL. It hits around 1 million as predicted but it seems to jump around a lot in speed for some reason.
I also installed the P4 client linked from MM's page and it brought me from 369,291 to around 550,000 but it's a dos based client only (as far as I can tell) so I'm not interested in running it. Anyone know of a version of this with a GUI?

Link works now. Did not at 3am. It took me to a MSU search page. It was the windows clients tab in the left column not really a link I guess.

Son Of A B*tch! I've been running the slow a$$ standard GUI client :| Thanx for starting this thread and providing great links 🙂 Now I'll start turning out some better DPs 😀

You still think that you're going to win the race to 50k?

Well, CADkindaGUY's queue let's him see how long my machine is running & he just crack's SETI the rest of the time.. Maybe soni can do the same.
