Is there a way to have eccp run as a service... AND always have permanent connection as an option.. cuz... if a pc ever loses connection, the perm connection checkbox gets unmarked... and you have to reset it...

I don't recall having that problem. What O/S are you running?

I am out house/dog sitting right now so I can't check what I had setup, but I will try to remember to look when I go home tomorrow to do the stats update.

If you are running NT/W2K, you could also try firedaemon with a CLI client and use the -xmit switch.

Bob,

I'm using FireDaemon on 6/8 PC's and it works just fine...

You have to be carefull not to set the ECCp cli has a normal priority as it slows considerably the computer, u must put it in idle priority.

I haven't tested the permanent connection thingy but hey at the end of the day CTRL+X / CTRL+V and off they go...

Here's an idea:

Before installing ECCp as a service open the GUI client, set the configuration u want and then install the GUI client as a service...

I've installed the ECCp client in GUI mode in the computer I'm sitting now and the only thing I noted about it is the dplist file growing from time to time.

I think that Services only run in the background on Windows NT/2k/XP...

For instance,

Until a few months ago I had an Apache server installed as a service in Windows 98 and a DOS window was always visible in the Programs bar...

In Windows Windows NT/2k/XP the Service runs in the background and u don't see a thing in your Desktop...

Are you sure? The SETI and DNET clients will run as an invisible service in win9x/me.

I'm not sure as I run the GUI. If you really want ECCp invisible you could set the GUI to not display the tray icon.

The only way to currently run a service on win9x is to use the SMP/service client from ND.

No problem, nagger, services are usually just run on NT/2K/XP. I don't even know how well it runs on win9x. I believe it was the first attempt to 'hide' the app from users before Virus came out with an option to hide the tray icon in the statsaholic clients.

Bob,

Follow this Thread, MereMortal explained me last Tuesday how to install ECCp as a service in 2k.

I've choose the 2nd option (install FireDaemon) and then selected the latest optimized client to run as a service...

Installation notices

After FireDaemon installs it sets a program folder in the path Start / Programs / FireDaemon

Choose the Icon under UI, its easier to use...

Follow the program instructions and you're on your way
