ECCp-109 Challenge (New distributed project?)

I did a couple searches in this forum for the ECCp-109 Challenge and didn't find any relevant posts so maybe this is a new project.

Someone from here must be doing ECCp-109 though because Team AnandTech is listed in 21st place.

My Celeron 548 is reporting about 185k iterations per second FWIW with no points ready to send in yet, but I've only been running it a few minutes.

Comments anyone?

It's still early to draw many conclusions, but it appears that ECCp-109 is dial-up friendly for the broadband challenged such as myself.

Some time ago, the ECCp-108 challenge finished, but it didn't become really popular. At the end there were only a few hundred participants. But I'll give 109 a try.
Did you create Team Anandtech for 109 or was it still there from 108?

Team Anandtech was already in 21st place the first time I checked out the ECCp-109 site, and when I went to Join/Create Team and entered Team Anandtech it told me I was joining an existing team. So I figured another Team Anandtecher was there before me already crunching away on 109.

So what's ECCp about then?:confused: ,I read their explanation & it just seems to be a project to solve a mathmatical problem ,is that right?

Confusing, isn't it? ;)

ECPP is Elliptic Curve Primality Proving, the mathematical contest I think you're thinking of.
ECCp is the new version of ECDL, Elliptic Curve Discrete Logarithms or some such. Both are contests to crack the same type of code, by solving the Discrete Logarithm Problem. And I'll have to dig out my Algorithms textbook if you want to know what that is. :)

We have moved up to 15th place on the teams list.

They have also added link from the team stats page to look up the individuals on the team.

WooHoo! I'm third on Team Anandtech. Unfortunately there are only four on our team right now.

The only thing that scares me about this project is the fact that the source code is freely available for all. I downloaded it earlier today, and fooled with it for a few minutes, and it appears one could build a fully working client (unlike distributed.net's). I'll look into in a bit more when I have some free time.

No,no! your confusing DPC with SETI@Netherlands ,they are a totally different teams.
TA has about 10x the members of DPC SETI :)
