ECC RAM

i just purchased some crucial PC-133 ECC RAM and im wondering just how much difference ECC makes in real life... sounds good on paper

ECC is good stuff. Whether you need it or not is a religious arguement. It has a slight negative performance impact during writes due to read/modify/write cycles required when writing less than 64 bits. I use it but if cost is an issue you could probably spend you money elsewhere. Not all MoBo chipsets support ECC.

That is correct. ECC requires 72 bits... 64 for data and 8 bits for the ECC "syndrome". ECC can correct single bit errors and detect all double bit errors.
