ECC RAM + Socket 754 Athlon 64

Hi,

Will ECC RAM work with my processor (3400+ Newcastle) and motherboard (DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb)?

The reason of asking is that my normal RAM is being RMAed at the moment, and I have access to some ECC RAM that I could use in the meanwhile...

Timely response would be appreciated.

My old 754 board based on NVidia 250GB did support it, it said so and it had the BIOS options for it.

My new via board doesn't, unfortunately, but I ran into too much hassle with NVidia.

This is a really unfortunate situation for AMD64, you can basically only get no ECC support with problem-free (Linux and FreeBSD view) chipsets.

I am working on going socket 940 now in lack of better options. Of course my i875 board gives me neither driver trouble no does it omit ECC support...

Guess I was wrong,i tought only opteron servers were able to use ECC ram. Oh well. 🙂

maybe the ram works but the ecc is disabled- so working as buffered
where is the one wait state (buffer)
BTW
on the ram or in the memory controller

we may be on to something here
wonder if four sticks would work?

what do the cpuid and other system info utilities say you have?
run some stress tests
