ECC memory impede overclocking?

I know that ECC memory normally causes a 2-3% penalty to performance, but does this still apply if the ECC function is disabled in the BIOS?

Also is ECC memory any less overclockable than its non-ECC bretheren? I'm concerned that even with ECC disabled, that extra chip might cause some instability at high fsb in CL2.

I'm trying to decide between Crucial PC133 CL2 with ECC and non-ECC, since the ECC is only $6 more, which is nothing even if I never use it. It would be nice to know it was there just in case I need it.

I think it could impede, my system(msi pro2a with duron 700 factory unlocked, and 512(2*256)mb pc133 ECC sdram) was only stable up to 950mhz 9.5X10. While everyone it seems, with even pensil unlocked could do 1Ghz. I hope its because my system is still fresh, only a few days old, and not the ECC but I think its the ram considering the newer .18 micron chip like the durons probably need less burn in time.
